Armour Creation Guide

Here is a quick guide to help anyone trying to create an armour in three easy steps. Please note that this
is to be used with the original book as I’m not going to list every possible piece of equipment. Also I kept
some information for Kongohki building for anyone interested but beyond the attribute pools and frame
type this guide is for armour’s.

Step One: Pick a Frame and Type

The first step in Armour creation is to decide what type you want and if they have a Meikyo Mirror or a
Kimenkyo Mirror. The types of armour and their Station costs are listed below.
Armour Type Meikyo Station Kimen Station
Regular Armour 8 4
Suit Armour 6 2
Living Armour 7 3
Great Armour 13 N/A

Step Two: Pick Appearance and distribute Attribute points

Below is a list of every combination of appearance you can have for an Armour or Kongohki along with
their minimum attributes after taking into account their appearance along with the total equipment
slots gained with that combination. The appearances are grouped first by lower torso than listed by the
upper torso it is paired with. Before this list is a smaller list of the attribute pools of every type after
factoring in the minimum needed for creation (Every attribute needs to be at 3 before appearance is
factored in). After picking an appearance simple add that number of points to the attributes however
you like. Also remember to calculate Vitality (Body*2) and Wounds (Same as a character’s)

Optional Rule: A lot of the example armours in the book aren’t quite possible with the normal creation
rules in the book nor do they quite work with the ones here without adding one little thing. Before
distributing attribute points you can move one or two of the minimums points to any other attribute. I
don’t know why four of the eight sample armours are off by a point or two but this little bit of frame
customization brings them in line with what you can create.

Step 3: Equipment and Weapons

The final step is to pick Equipment and Weapons for your armour. As I said earlier I’m not going to go
into details here but I will give some bullet points for something that are not so obvious in the chapter.

• All Karma cost for the armour comes from their weapons and equipment. It has nothing to do
with whether it has a Meikyo or Kimen Mirror. You can have a really low costing armour if you
specialize it. (See Earth King P.186)
• A basic melee weapon for 5 Karma gains +4 to its damage at no cost. Ranged weapons need to
be customized in order to get the bonus.
• In addition to the upper torso and lower torso equipment slots an armour also has 2 head slots.
• Mechanica: When you get something that needs an kijin arm, leg, torso or combat scanner you
need to pay 5 karma for both the equipment you want and 5 for its attachment. However your
armour also gets the bonus from the attachment; Arms boost melee damage, legs boosts
Movement rolls, torso gives extra Vitality, and a combat scanner gives bonuses to Notice rolls.
I’ve come to explain this as when they adapted the armour for kijin tech they specialized the
piece in question.
• Mechanica: In addition to the karma cost for putting mechanica on an armour the player
character must also pay the attribute cost associated with any mechanica equipped to their
armour.
• Mechanica: Remember you already have a Heart engine in the armour; don’t pay for it twice.
