1. Rohit wants to have an erect image of an object using a converging mirror of


focal length 40 cm.

(a) Specify the range of distance where the object can be placed in front of
the mirror. Justify.b) Draw a ray diagram to show the image formation in this
case.

(c) State one use of the mirror based on the above kind of image formation.

2. A compass needle is placed near a current-carrying wire. State your


observations for the following cases and give reasons for the same in each
case-

(a) Magnitude of electric current in a wire is increased.

(b) The compass needle is displaced away from the wire

3. Alloys are used in electrical heating devices rather than pure metals. Give a
reason.
4. How many bulbs of 81 should be joined in parallel to draw a current of 2A
from a battery of 4V?
5. A household uses the following electric appliances. Calculate the
electricity bill of the household for the month of June if the cost per
unit of electric energy is Rs.3.00
(i) Refrigerator of rating 400w for ten hours each day.
(ii) Six electric tubes of rating 80w each for 6 hours each day.

6. A student is unable to see clearly the words written on the black board placed
at a distance of approximately 3 m from him. Name the defect of vision the
boy is suffering from. State the possible causes of this defect and explain the
method of correcting it
7. Draw a ray diagram to show the refraction of light through a glass prism. Mark
on it (a) the incident ray, (b) the emergent ray and (c) the angle of deviation
8. Distinguish between a bar magnet and an electromagnet.
9. Give two reasons why different electrical appliances in a domestic circuit are
connected in parallel
10. The image of a candle flame placed at a distance of 30 cm from a mirror is
formed on a screen placed in front of the mirror at a distance of 60 cm from its
pole. What is the nature of the mirror? Find its focal length. If the height of the
flame is 2.4 cm, find the height of its image. State whether the image formed is
erect or inverted.
