The Sacred Heart Church

The Sacred Heart Church is located in the Bronx and Manhattan, and is dedicated to the
sanctity of the heart of Jesus. The Sacred Center's mission is to promote compassion, love,
and long-suffering of the Lord for humanity. The church is devoted to the Solemnity of the
Sacred Cross, celebrated the second Friday after Pentecost. In the early nineteenth century,
the parish began as a Plymouth Baptist Church.

Founded in 1886, the Sacred Heart Church was founded in Michigan in 1886. Father William
Gagnieur, a Jesuit missionary, was appointed the first pastor. The church was blessed on
Sept. 8, 1928, and is still in use, with weekend Masses being held every Sunday. The original
church, built in 1786, is listed on the Michigan Historic Register as a National Historic Site.

In 1946, Father Lawless began helping Native American missions on the island and began
work on the Sacred Heart Church. In 1897, the rectory was built, which is now a recognized
historic building. In the year 1906, a school was built on the property. In the early 1950s, a
fire destroyed the previous church, and construction of the current church began. It was later
expanded to accommodate a larger congregation.

The Sacred Heart Church began as a parish in 1876. Its first pastor was Fr. Brown. In 1897,
