COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course will awaken the student’s

consciousness as to what the purpose of
Mathematics really is. Considering our
surroundings, one may become conscious that
mathematics is everywhere; how mathematics is
embedded in nature and in our surroundings.
This course aims to expose the learners to the
practical applications of mathematics, to help them
improve their problem solving, critical thinking, self-
management and collaborative skills as they work in
small groups, and that mathematics is for everyone
who is willing to learn.
Modules are done and provided to present
mathematics not only as a set of formulas but as a
source of beauty in patterns in nature, and that it
has a rich language in itself through logic and
reasoning. Through these modules, one will realize
that problem solving is not merely memorizing
formulas but solving them by recognizing patterns,
trial and error, and reasoning.
Students will use real-life data in processing and
managing data. Most topics are new to the learners
and will find it exciting to learn about how it is
taught. With these modules, students will learn how
to manage their learning at their own pace and will
appreciate that mathematics is useful in their
everyday lives.
