Personal Statement

As a highly motivated and dedicated individual, I am excited to apply for the

Global Politics and International Relations program. I have always had a strong
interest in the intricacies of global politics and I am deeply passionate about
understanding the complex and ever-changing dynamics that shape our world. I
believe that studying this subject in a university setting will provide me with the
knowledge and skills necessary to make a positive impact on the world. My interest
in this field was sparked by my experiences growing up in a former communist
country, where the political and economical spectrum has been in a constant
development since the fall of the communist regime.
I am particularly interested in the ways in which different nations and non-state
actors interact and the impact this has on global governance and security.
Throughout my academic career, I have sought out opportunities to deepen my
understanding of these issues, whether through coursework, research, or
extracurricular activities. Throughout high school, I took multiple courses in
history, geopolitics, political and social science, which further solidified my
passion for this field. Additionally, I have also been involved in numerous debates
on various topics such as Will the world face a major food insecurity crisis by
2050?, Should countries have quotas to ensure representation of minority groups in
parliament?, Should climate policy be decided by a panel of experts rather than by
politicians? etc., where I have had the opportunity to conduct research on topics
such as the economic and political integration of the European Union, the role of
non-governmental organizations in peacebuilding, trade and globalization and
conflict resolution strategies in politics.
I have been volunteering at local political campaigns, which have given me a deeper
understanding of the political landscape and the ways in which individuals can
effect change and how political figures are dedicated to representing the welfare
of individuals, aiding them with any inequality they may face. Back in 2019, I
volunteered as a member of the counting team at the mayoral elections of one of the
biggest cities in Romania, here I experienced hands-on the complex voting system
and the proportional results it provides.
Furthermore, on the quest for deeper understanding of the global spectrum and for
better research accuracy and interpretation, I have devoted my time to learn new
languages, through self-study and academic courses and I can now proudly state that
I can understand, read and speak a total of 7 languages, Romanian being my mother
tongue, followed by English, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Turkish. I am
currently self-studying Russian and Greek.
I am now eager to take the next step in my academic journey by pursuing a degree in
Global Politics and International Relations at a leading university. I am confident
that this program will provide me with the knowledge and skills I need to become an
expert in this field and make a meaningful contribution to the global community.
I am particularly drawn to your university's reputation for excellence in this
field and the opportunities for research and practical experience that your program
offers. I am excited about the prospect of studying under the guidance of your
esteemed faculty members, engaging in discussions with my peers from diverse
backgrounds and I am eager to contribute to the university community through my
academic and extracurricular pursuits. As an-all round achiever I would consider
myself an asset to university life. Thank you for considering my application.
