ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES FOR THE ORAL TESTS

In order to promote teachers’ and students’ familiarization with what is expected in the FCE, the
Midterm and Final Oral Tests for Master in English 1 and 2 follow the same typology as the speaking
component of the exam.
Cambridge English official criteria and scales are also to be applied when assessing students. They
can be found in the Intranet > Educação > Cursos de Inglês > Master in English > Master in English 2
> FCE – Handbook for Teachers (pages 82, 83).
There are four aspects to be assessed and the marks for each aspect range from 0 to 5.
For the Midterm Oral Test mark (total 10), the total result obtained as per the official scales should
be divided by 2 and then registered in the Students’ Evaluation Chart. For example:

Grammar and Vocabulary 3.5

Discourse management 3.5

STUDENT A Pronunciation 4.0

Interactive communication 4.0

Total: 15.0 divided by 2 = 7.5 to be registered

For the Final Oral Test mark (total 20), the total result obtained as per the official scales should be
registered in the Students’ Evaluation Chart without any other adjustment. For example:

Grammar and Vocabulary 3.0
