4. FUNCTION PRINCIPLE OF HOIST The tubular swivel joint (1) permits secure fastening of the hoist
wheel on the bracket adapter.
WHEEL WITH DROP BRAKE
The hoist wheel with drop brake is patented – Patent No.
99112036.1-2309 – and recognised with the CE symbol in accor-
dance with the provisions of the 2006 / 42 / EC machinery directive.

The pulley support bracket (2) can be swivelled using the tubular
swivel joint, with the pulley (4) rotating about the pulley axle (3).

The two side plates (5) are fastened to the pulley support bracket (2),
and between them are mounted the pulley (4), the movable wedge
brake (7) and the counterweight (8).

The position of the counterweight (8) is adjusted by undoing the

Assembly of the hoist wheel with drop brake counterweight pin (9) using a special spanner. For safety reasons, a
special spanner is needed, which is supplied together with the hoist

The pulling force exerted by the person on the rope automatically
releases the wedge brake and allows the load to be lifted. When the
rope is released, the load is automatically held by the wedge brake.

weight relative to the working height of the rope are provided – see

The working conditions can vary when the rope is wet. In this case,
it is always essential to check the individual functions before putting
it into operation, if necessary adjusting the position of the counter-
weight.

5. ROPE FOR HOIST WHEEL Authorised use of hoist rope
The hoist rope may only be used for manual lifting of loads, where
it must be suspended over a movable pulley. The connection of the
load to the hoist rope must be made using additional load-bearing
equipment, such as the supplied shackle, load hook, belts or rope
slings.

Possible and typical incorrect uses

• Do not pull the loop of the hoist rope through the pulley under
load or using force. If the situation does not permit any other
option for dismantling, then pass the loop gently by hand over
the pulley.
• Never connect the rope to winches or any other motor-powered
conveying means!
• Do not pull the rope over edges! Ensure that the pulley moves
easily. Avoid any crushing, e.g. due to placing heavy loads on

hose of the loop. Fasten the scaffolding material
on the loading side.
The rubber washer acts as a stop
to prevent the rope being com-
pletely pulled out of the hoist
wheel with drop brake.

Pass the rope with the shrunk-on

hose end between the coun-
terweight and the pulley. Then
raise the wedge brake of the
hoist wheel and pass the rope
underneath it.

On the opposite side, pass the

rope between the spacer sleeve
and the rope guide pulley.

Grasp the rope hanging down on the handling side and take one
step back. This gives the hoist rope the right angle to allow lifting of
the scaffolding material. Watch for any objects that might be lying
around when taking a step back!

10
• the scaffolding erector lifts the ballast-weighted side of the
hoist wheel with drop brake, thus briefly releasing the wedge
brake so that the rope runs automatically downwards.
Caution: Watch out for the falling loading rope end!

The load to be lifted remains suspended when the rope is let go

thanks to the wedge brake. The operator on the ground can already
bring further scaffolding material to the rope hoist while the scaffold-
ing erector can perform assembly work in peace.
To release the wedge brake, pull the rope briefly vertically down-
wards; once the rope is free, the additionally attached 5 kg weight
pulls the loading rope end downwards, with the rope sliding loosely
through the hands. Caution: Watch out for the loading rope end.

Lowering scaffolding components

Ensure here that the brake of the hoist wheel is not used as a friction
brake when lowering the load. If this is not heeded, the brake and
the rope could be damaged! Lower the load at moderate speed.

Swing the bracket towards the scaffolding and take the scaffolding
material off the hook.

Important! There are two options for getting the now empty loading
side of the rope back down after material transport:
• an additional weight of 5 kg is permanently attached to the load
hook;
or
