Because I could not stop for Death:

The poem Because I could not stop for Death is about a character who is catching a
ride with death and immortality, essentially riding to her death. Throughout the poem, the
character is depicted as not being afraid of death, but then she realizes the afterlife is not
what she was led to believe, leaving the character disappointed. The purpose of this poem
is to inform the reader that even if you think you are prepared or have accepted a
situation, it can always take a turn for the worse. This can be seen throughout the poem
when the tone of the poem is peaceful, and the character is willing to go with Death and
Immortality, but it takes a sudden shift when the character becomes disappointed of the
afterlife, and the tone of the poem shifts to sinister.

Lady Lazarus:

The story of Lady Lazarus by Sylvia Plath is a poem that portrays the idea of not
giving up through a grisly story. It seems to be portrayed in the poem by her trying to kill
herself. She failed multiple attempts but she did not stop until she met her end goal, no
matter how morbid. But that's not where the idea of persevering and not giving up comes
from. It comes from the last line of the poem. When she talks about rising from the ashes
like a phoenix to revenge herself on those who caused her pain. She does this by creating a
vivid picture of her situation, showing why she chooses that fate.
