The Family and Society

A. Social and Political Role of the Family:

Families, either singly or in association can and should involve themselves in social service activity that
will benefit people, especially the poor, who more often cannot be reached by public authorities and
welfare organizations.

The family is called to imitate Christ’s example to help those in need: “ And if anyone gives even a cup of
cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not
lose his reward.”

Families should be the first to see to it that the laws or institutions of the State do not violate the rights
and duties of the family.
