BEED 3A

Read the scenario and answer the following question:

1. How will you describe the experiences of the students in a Multigrade class?

Students are experiencing poor socio-economic background, transport, parental

illiteracy, and teacher challenges. a lot of difficulties which were mostly on travel, lack of
physical facilities. Some were also personal such as lack of time to spend with the family
due to so many school works. Others were on financial problems. Some of these may
not be pedagogical but require support for communications and roads, or partnership
building with parents.
2. What do you think are the underlying learning principles that guide the teacher in
preparing for her class? Elaborate.

Based from the scenario, One of the problems she encountered in her students is the
poor phycicalmcondition. They went for several months before she was able to teach the
children to take bath everyday and wear clean clothes. Their families may be very poor,
and they may be living in home conditions not conducive to study. The teacher made
this challenge as an opportunity to improve her students’ physical condition. It is
therefore important for you as a multigrade teacher to understand the family and
individual backgrounds of each of your students and manage the resulting differences in
their interest and ability to learn.

3. Having the knwoledge of the different principles in teaching in a multigrade class.

What are your relaizations after reading the scenario?

Teaching multigrades based in Teacher Novie’s case is really challenging. There are
difficulties stated by the classroom teachers as the excessive effort of the teacher, high
expectations from the student, distance difficulties, lack of support, lack of education,
physical condition of the students, and Inclusiveness. It has been seen that the solution
suggestions suggested by the teachers are openness, assistant personnel, improvement
of the physical conditions, and increasing the quality and quantity of training services.
So, As a multigrade teacher, you have to be flexible and use various teaching methods,
according to their specific teaching need at the time. Combining more than one grade in
a multigrade context is even more of a challenge. This requires not only specialized
content knowledge and teaching-learning methods but also personal values which
respect and welcome diversity in the classroom. What is important to understand,
however, is that such diversity should be seen not only as a challenge but also as an
opportunity for providing better quality education for all your students
