P ASSIGNMENT 4 REFLECTION PAPER

I. 360 ATE STREET, NEW HAVEN TRANSIT – ORIENTED MIXED – USE DEVELOPMENT

The New Haven transit – oriented mixed – use development is a multi-building project that
consists of residential buildings, commercial buildings, and parking spaces and facilities, this
project uses sustainable green architecture practices, making the project development stand-
out in the United States because it is one of the largest green residential buildings. Located at
the center of New Haven, with accessible or near transits or transportation with a nearby
cultural attraction, making it one of the most functional street or places in united states. The
conveniency of walking from one place to another would be a great addition to the
development. Placing more street stores would make the space or street more engaging to the
citizens, it would also make the street or place more active. An active street with many
activities or things to see would make the place more attractive. Cultural activities such as
traditional fiestas or festivals will also contribute to people engaging to one another. In this
way, it would make the place attract more people from other places making the street more
productive. Affordable housing units would be beneficial to both consumers and providers.
Transportation options would make connectivity from other places easier. The suggestions and
recommendations would make the place more attractive since it has a good sustainability
green architecture design it’s already a place that has a great environment.
II. THE WAUREGAN HOTEL, NORWICH, CONNECTICUT

Originally known as Wauregan house and was built during 1881. This hotel has served many
tourists and residents that would visit the city. The hotel has undergone renovations that gave
it a more modern look but still retains its traditional looks, a vintage design that fits in modern
era. Through out the years, the hotel has become a landmark and gain historical significance
to Norwich. What I can recommend for this to be more attractive are, they should update the
interior design of this hotel. Applying new features and designs but still retaining its vintage
look and aesthetic to make it feel new but still gives a feel of nostalgia.
III. OCTAGON, ROOSEVELT ISLAND

A residential that is known for its unique octagonal shape that sets it apart from other
structures that surrounds it. It was built during 1882 and was part of the city’s Smallpox
Hospital, and has later on been used as nursing home before being turned as a residential
building. It is now known as a co-operative house that provides and offers a wide range of
housing apartments. the hotel is located near transportation sheds making it more convenient
for the residents and tourist who works on other places. The ways that I think would improve
this residential building is by providing commercial spaces for stores to be placed making the
building gain more activities to do and making it more attractive to people. Local vendors and
stalls can be placed out side the building for it to attract activities and citizens. This would also
make the place much safer for the residents and as well as visitors. As a residential building it
is possible to have waste issues, maintaining it regularly can be a positive thing to have for
residents. And last is providing benches and other leisure spaces for pedestrians, visitors, and
as well the residents.
