I. REFERENCE CODES AND STANDARDS

 International Electro technical Commission

 American National Standards Institute

 Philippine Electrical Code

 National Building Code of the Philippines

 Philippines Mechanical Engineering Code

II. OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this method statement is to ensure the correct materials
are installed and agreed procedures are implemented during execution for
the installation of Transformer in safe manner, standard with the
requirements and serve the intended functions to satisfactory level

III. PRE INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

 All documentation such as (Approved Shop drawings, Checklist and
Approved Method Statement etc.) and the material applicable to a
particular section of work will be checked by the Site engineer prior to
the commencement of work ensuring that these are of the correct
type as reviewed by the Engineer
 Transformer will be off loaded to the place nearest to the installation
protected properly from dust and adverse environment impact
 Civil work requirements such as Transformer pad, Oil containment
must be prepared with enough time of concrete curing prior to the
preparation of positioning of the transformer
 An enough capacity of lifting equipment with certified operator must
be prepared and ready on the site area.
o Crane with certificate and certified operator
o Forklift with certificate and certified operator
o Boom truck with certificate and certified operator
o Chain Block
 Before the beginning of the installation, it will be ensured that the
approved valid permit to work (PTW) is available on site
o Risk Assessment identifies high-risk works a permit to work
will be obtained from the end user safety department
 Necessary civil clearance will be obtained (if applicable) prior to the
start of installation

 Lift the transformer and tilt it back a little more before travelling. Keep
the forks 6 to 10 inches above the ground to avoid potential hazards
on the ground.

Transformer positioning using forklift

 Manual handling, rollers, trolley are used to facilitate forward motion to

find the erection place. Position tank type roller and round bar roller at
the surface of the landing pad in preparation for pulling

Not much heavier transformer, positioning using Hydraulic trolley

 Secure the chain block to a structure that can withstand the

load. Position the hook directly above the centre of gravity. Use the
chain pulley block only for vertical lifting. Use appropriate personal
protective equipment during lifting. Installation of chain block and
nylon rope at the landing pad area attached to building beam for
transformer pulling when the unit reaches the landing pad

Transformer positioning using chain block

 Extra precaution to be taken before lifting transformer & manufacturer

recommended lifting eye shall be used

TRANSFORMER HAULING AND  EFFECTIVITY:
POSITIONING METHODOLOGY

 Transformer shall be lifted with maximum sling angle of 60 degrees as
per manufacturer’s recommendation
 Points of attachment shall be check for cracks welds or loose nuts and
bolts before lifting
 Guide rope shall be used to prevent twisting or swinging of the
transformer once it has been lifted clear of the ground
 Secure the transformer to the foundation after assuring the correct
positioning, by anchor bolts
 After the transformer installation and approval substation is securely
lockup and the room place under the permit system and only those have
permit are allowed to enter the room

V. TRANSFORMER CHECKLIST
 Check transformer are of correct size, type, and capacity in accordance
with schedule and specification
 Check mounting alignment and orientation are correct
 Check if there is enough space is available on the surrounded of
transformer for maintenance purposes
 Inspect for physical, electrical and mechanical condition of the
transformer, no damage evident
 Make sure the transformer is grounded

 A careful examination should be made to ensure that all electrical

connections have been properly carried out and that the correct ratio
exists between the low and high-voltage windings. For this test, apply
a low-voltage (240V or 480V) to the high-voltage winding and measure
the output at the low-voltage winding
 Correct fan rotation should be visually verified as well as by checking
indicator lights if they are installed. Also, a one-
minute, 1200V insulation resistance test of the control circuits shall be

done. (If the power transformer has CT circuits, they should be
closed.)
 All windings should be checked for continuity. An insulation resistance
test shall be carried out to make certain that no windings are
grounded.

VI. SAFETY PROTOCOL

 APSI shall carry out its works in the safest manner possible. Job
hazard analyses shall be prepared and approved prior to setting out
with specific tasks to be performed. The health of its workers shall be a
paramount concern of APSI
 Always Coordinates with the safety department of the end client, and
take the necessary permit before to precede work.
 APSI workers are always wearing necessary PPE
 Coordinate with Technical/Engineering Dept for isolation/Energize of
electrical equipment before/after servicing the unit.
 Provide warning sign and sufficient barricades on working areas
 Highly competent workers will engage on services work
 Tool box meeting shall be conducted by safety supervisor so that work
activities will be properly coordinated with all concern
 Housekeeping shall be maintain and the working area shall be keep
clean
 Job Hazard and Risk assessment of this procedure shall be
disseminated and explained to the worker for safety awareness
