BUTTON BATTERY

- Button batteries are lightweight, tiny, round batteries and has a

long shelf-life.

- They are frequently seen in Calculators, Cameras, Hearing aids,

Penlights, and Watches.

- These batteries are frequently swallowed by children or shoved

up their noses. They can be inhaled more deeply through the

nose.

- These symptoms may arise if a person places the battery up

their nose and breathes it in further. Cough, Pneumonia,

Possible complete blockage of the airway.

- According to Safe Kids, more than 2,800 children are treated in

emergency rooms each year after ingesting button batteries,

which equates to one child every three hours.

- More than 3,500 people of all ages swallow button batteries

every year in the United States.

- Button cell batteries are classified into four chemistry types:

alkaline, lithium and silver oxide, and mercury (no longer

produced).

- Various Types of Button Cell

1. Alkaline button cell - This battery can meet the demand

for high current continuous discharge due to its big

capacity, outstanding low-temperature performance, and

inexpensive price.
2. Silver Zinc Oxide button cells - The positive electrode is

silver oxide, the negative electrode is zinc, and the

electrolyte is an alkaline solution. It can be designed as a

primary or secondary battery.

3. Lithium polymer button-cell batteries - These are the best

of all button-cell batteries especially since they are

rechargeable and mercury-free.
