3rd Grade - Science


Objective: Students will understand the impact pollution is causing in our
oceans. Students will come up with solutions to ocean pollution and
create an informational poster.

Standards: NGSS E-5-ETSI-2 Evaluate possible solutions to a problem when


presented with more than one solution. Discuss which solution
would work best and tell why.

Introduction 1. Discuss with class about what students already know


about pollution and its harmful effects
2. Share definition of pollution with students on
board 3. Students will watch a video about water
pollution

Body 1. Students will work on a webquest to complete the worksheet


by answering questions found in various websites
2. Students will work in teams of two to create an
informational poster about a possible solution to water
pollution and three ways they can help reduce water
pollution
a. Explain that a poster should be eye catching, clear,
and short to hold someone's interest
Closure 1. Students will complete an exit ticket answering: Why is
water pollution dangerous? What is one way we can help?
2. Students will share their informational posters with table
groups 3. Whole class discussion on ways we can help create a
safer environment and make a change
