 Paytm Payments Bank has gone live with UPI Lite, thus enabling its customers to experience hassle
free UPI payments.
 UPI Lite is a feature enabled by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for multiple small
value UPI transactions. With UPI LITE, users can carry out a large number of small value UPI payments
without worrying about the bank cap on UPI transactions.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an instant real-time payment system developed by National Payments
Corporation of India facilitating inter-bank transactions. The interface is regulated by the Reserve Bank of India

Maharashtra, Gujarat lead in FDI inflows in the first three quarters

 According to Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade data, Maharashtra and
Gujarat recorded a positive growth in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the current fiscal even as the
overall FDI inflows into the country decelerated due to rising global interest rates.
 FDI inflows into Maharashtra went up by 19 per cent year-on-year to ₹85,186 crore during the April-
December of the current fiscal.
 FDI inflows into Gujarat during the first three quarters of the current fiscal more than doubled to ₹32,349
crore. However, in the first three quarters of the current fiscal, FDI inflows into Karnataka declined by
45 per cent.
 FDI inflows into Tamil Nadu fell by 15 per cent y-o-y in the current fiscal whereas Rajasthan recorded
61 per cent growth in FDI inflows. The overall FDI inflows into India fell by 9 per cent to ₹2.91-lakh
crore during April-December 2022.
 The computer software and hardware sector attracted the highest inflows of ₹63,819 crore in the
first nine months of the current fiscal. FDI flows to the automobile sector saw the steepest decline of 77
per cent year-on-year to ₹10,015 crore during the current fiscal.

Nepal elected Ram Chandra Poudel as new President

 Ram Chandra Poudel of the Nepali Congress was elected President of Nepal, amid increasing political
instability in the country ruled by a fragile coalition headed by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal

 This is the third presidential election in Nepal since the country became a republic in 2008.

Attukal Pongala celebrated in Kerala

 Attukal Pongal, A10-day festival begins in the Malayalam month of Makaram-Kumbham (February-
March) from the Bharani (Karthika) star day.
 It ends on the tenth day with a sacrificial offering known as ‘Kuruthitharpanam’ at night. The ninth
day is considered the most important and is celebrated as Attukal Pongala Mahotsavam.

Long-lost moth species caught on camera in Tamil Nadu forest

 Two researchers from Tamil Nadu have spotted a rare moth species for the first time in India in the
buffer zone of the Kalakkad–Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) after it was last sighted 127 years
ago — at Trincomalee in Sri Lanka in 1893.
 Mimeusemia ceylonica is a moth species belonging to the subfamily Agaristinae and family Noctuidae.
 It was first illustrated and described by English entomologist George Hampson in 1893.
 The species was rediscovered during a moth survey conducted on October 11, 2020 at the Agasthyamalai
Community-based Conservation Centre (ACCC) situated in the buffer zone of KMTR, Tirunelveli district.

 As per the India and US collaboration, NISAR Satellite has been built jointly by NASA and ISRO and
is set to take off by 2024.
 The satellite has been rendered to ISRO Space Agency which is intended to observe and measure
land and ice masses on Earth among various other activities.
 NASA asserted that this radar imaging satellite will use dual frequencies to assess complex issues such
as melting glaciers, ecosystem disruptions, etc.

expanse of IOR over a duration of four months from Nov 22 - Mar 23, culminated this week in the
Arabian Sea.
 The overall exercise construct included Coastal Defence exercise Sea Vigil and the Amphibious
Exercise AMPHEX.
 Together, these exercises also witnessed significant participation from the Indian Army, the Indian
Air Force and the Coast Guard.
