A. Construct a Frequency Distribution Table including all informative columns.

1. Determine the range (R) of the numerical data.

R = Highest data value - Lowest data value
R = 40 – 10 = 30

2. Determine the number of classes K to which the data are to be grouped using the Sturges’
Approximation;
K = 1 + 3.322 Log N;
= 1 + 3.322 Log 50
= 6.64 or 7

3. Determine the class size (C)

 C=R/K
= 30/7
= 4.28 or approximately 5
4. Determine the lower limit of the class.
Lowest value = Lower limit = 10
5. Construct the FDT

B. Find the value of the three measures of central tendency

1. MEAN
 MG = 1405 / 50

= 28.1

2. MEDIAN

The median class is the interval 25 – 29.

Where: Lmd = 24.5 fb = 17 N = 50

C = 5 fmd = 9

MdG = 24.5 + 5 [(50/2) – 17)/ 9]

= 24.5 + 5 [(25 – 17)/ 9]

= 24. 5 + 5 [(8/9)]

= 24. 5 + 4.44

= 28.94

3. MODE

The modal class is the interval 35 – 39.

Where: Lmo = 34.5 fb = 8 c = 5
fa = 3 fmo = 13

MoG = 34.5 + 5 [(13-8)/ 2(13) – 3 – 8]

= 34.5 + 5 [ 5/ 26 – 3 – 8]

= 34.5 + 5 (5/15) = 34.5 + 1.66

= 36.17
