An educational institution, like all other locations, is a hub of activity.

A big number of students,

teachers, and staff visit and stay on campus every day. They use the canteen, toilet (washroom),
campus ground, classrooms, and the entire campus arena at random during that period. The impacts
of the used and remaining particles are distributed out in some way. This is how an institution's
environment becomes contaminated. For our University Malaya , we have more than one pollutions
happening around us . But for now , we are looking forward to focus on air pollution in University
Malaya . Air pollution may be dispersed and transported from one region to another area located far
away in places like this . There are numerous causes to this particular issue.

First and foremost , dominant cause behind this pollution is vehicles that passes through University
Malaya route on daily basis . It is clearly known that most of the people in University Malaya use
their own vehicles or provided transportations in order to attend classes. For instance, the main
entrance and exits of the university are always full of types of vehicles . Mostly used vehicles are
private cars , bus and motorcycles . As people are continuously travelling which lead the growing
demand of vehicle on road day by day. Petrol or diesel fuelled passenger vehicles emerges a huge
amount of pollutants like Nitrogen Oxide, Carbon Mono Oxide, Sulphur Oxide (Sox) in the air.
Vehicles are responsible for the unwanted elements in atmosphere which directly or indirectly
affects the people and all living being on earth.Vehicle pollution is affecting our University Malaya’s
environment in various manners like it is making our atmosphere so harmful that to take breath is
like just to take slow poison from air. Multiple diseases are spreading in popular areas like Kuala
Lumpur due to vehicle pollution. Pollution in air creates major effects on people’s health including
animals and plants also it is badly harming our ecosystem which results in terms of global warming.
Automobile industry is directly affecting 80 to 90% in atmosphere by emerging greenhouse gases
which are a group of compounds that are able to trap heat in the atmosphere, like nitrogen oxide
carbon mono oxide, Sulphur oxide (SOx). These types of problems, might not only effect in campus’s
people health thus it will also effect their academic and non-academic performance as well .
Exposure towards the polluted air might cause unexpected effects among students, staffs and
teachers in University Malaya . To justify this point , we firmly agree that air pollution is caused by
Vehicles that passes through University Malaya’s route daily .

Furthermore , the mismanagement of waste in University of Malaya leads to air pollution . As we all
know , University Malaya is an open area and each and everyday it can clearly seen that garbages
and wastes are being all over the campus and other places here. It is caused by the mismanagement
of solid waste from the people who utilizes the whole university .The effects of this type of pollution
is the spread of harmful bacteria in the surroundings, as well as obnoxious odors which will also end
up as air pollution. Likewise , causes various respiratory diseases and other adverse health effects as
contaminants are absorbed from lungs into other parts of the body of the people who works or
studies here. The toxic substances in air contaminated by waste include carbon dioxide, nitrous
oxide and methane. Garbage can create air pollution due to gasses and chemicals evaporating from
the waste. This air pollution can occur in open-air dumps, where a lot of our waste and electronic
trash goes, and at garbage disposal sites. The air pollution from incineration can be so bad, in fact,
that it can even release toxic substances that can contribute to acid rain too. For instance ,
overflowing of garbages in certain colleges in University of Malaya leads to multiple types of effects
to students . This can cause uncomfortable situations for the students and also effect the mental
health. To justify our point , the mismanagement of waste are most likely to cause air pollution in
University of Malaya .
Moreover , the usage of chemical products for cleaning and sanitizing the university can cause air
pollution. When it comes to cleaning or sanitizing the educational institutions it includes more
chemical substances throughout the whole process. For huge or crowded places like University of
Malaya , requires lots of cleaning and sanitizing . For instance , in order to reduce/control mosquitos
population ; the usage of chemical substances are higher especially when it comes to large areas like
University of Malaya . The harm of using the chemical for removing the mosquito can cause such as
dizziness, difficulty in breathing, headaches, diarrhea, joint pain, and shakiness. Which make serious
environment pollution in this university. The most used substance is , Volatile organic compounds
(VOC) a type of chemical which is used in cleaning products can affect indoor air quality and also
contribute to smog formation in outdoor air. Air mixed by chemical substances can effect students
and staffs health who passes through the university surroundings . To add the point , Fumes from
chemicals or toxic substances can irritate your airways, skin and eyes, and inhaling a substance can
make the human’s nose and throat sore or swollen . These types of chemical usage in cleaning or
sanitizing process could lead to harmful effect . Plus , this will also effect the student academics
progress. To clarify our point , the usage of chemical products in University of Malaya are known as
one of the cause for air pollution .
