REINFORCING HEALTH

SERVICE
rendering, facilities, and programs in the Philippines

O V E R
V I E W
The Philippines falls behind in healthcare due to inadequate
funds, weak programs, and poverty. Study shows that about
50% of the population do not have access to primary care
facilities (PCFs) in a span of 30 minutes (Flores, 2021). Also,
the country's poor health system was further revealed by the
onslaught of the COVID pandemic that deprived patients
from effective technology and treatments.

HUMAN SECURITY
Human security is the protection of
an individual from threats, and their
basic human rights. It is also termed
as "freedom from want" and
"freedom from fear" (Newman, 2017)

HISTORY
According to Busumtwi-Sam, J. (2002):

During the cold war in the 21st century, national security in terms of
military was prioritized above all. However, external changes
occurred outside the military perspective: environment, health, geo-
politics, and globalization which encompassed security. This
warranted the reshaping and understanding of the concept of
human security in which aspects aside from the military perspective
is taken into account

IMPORTANCE :
Pave way in strengthening policy
actions by the government
Promotes inclusivity of civilians
Raises the challenges experienced by
nations in order to find a solution
Categorizes the threats and rights of
people
Exercises democracy

HEALTH AND HUMAN SECURITY

Health is essential for human survival, livelihood, and
dignity
Health of the population is important for stability
Ensures quality healthcare in times of crisis
Educates the public related to health
Promotes protection and preparedness

CONCLUSION
Threats surrounding the population's health should be
monitored by the government and are kept in
stability. Poverty, natural disasters, and humanitarian
emergencies are some factors that bring forth death
and illness to the population. In times like these, the
government should be well prepared in facilities and
workforce to mitigate the problem. Hence, the
country is yet to reach that level and improvements in
government policies should be made. Areas
concerning water sanitation, food availability,
environmental cleanliness, and air pollution create a
vicious cycle of non-stop illness and poverty with
should be put into a halt.
