II. Literature Review (Site 3-5 review literature, Foreign/local)

Learning is closely related to education, whether conducted in

school or out of schools. Learning is the “key term” that is most vital in

any education endeavor, so that without learning there is no education.

Learning is a business or activity to master something new in five

dimensions, that are knowing, abling, willing, usualing and responsibly.

(Prayitno, 2014). In learning activities students may face problems that

can inhibit their learning process and the achievement of learning

objectives. Learning problems is a special problem related to the effort

of organizing learning activities. The life environmental influence

conditions of student learning activities may be physical environmental

conditions and the socio-emotional relationship between students and

others, including their relationship with teachers, friends, and family

members at home (Jang, Reeve, & Deci, 2010).

According to the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention

(CDC), physical activity has an impact on cognitive skills such as

concentration and attention, and it also enhances classroom attitudes

and behaviors, all of which are important components of improved

academic performance. In addition, Short MA et. Al (2013), Sleep quality

was found to be substantially linked to bad outcomes, with teenagers

OUR LADY OF LOURDES COLLEGE

reporting less sleep on school nights, decreased daytime alertness, and

a gloomy mood. Through the relationship with sadness, adolescents with

poor sleep quality and/or a higher evening chronotype were also more

likely to report bad grades. The amount of time spent sleeping had little

effect on adolescent functioning. The relevance of two lesser-studied

components of sleep, circadian chronotype and sleep quality, was

revealed by these findings. Simple techniques to improve sleep quality

and maintain an adaptable circadian body clock may aid in improving

daily alertness, mood, and academic performance.

In today’s date stress has been an integral part of life and the

body’s reaction to a challenge because it is not limited to adults only,

but stress is increasingly affecting children of all age group. This may

be the most common long-term cause of stress for students. Student

life has many benefits, but it also imposes inevitable stresses. For those

who are already battling depression or have an existing vulnerability to

it, these stresses can trigger anxiety and episodes of depression.

Academic pressure related stress has been identified as one of the prime

types in the stress in student learning process. It is undoubtedly one of

the biggest problems faced by the current student force during COVID

19. It is also becoming an escalating nerve-racking problem for both

teachers and students. Beyond doubt, stress management has been one
OUR LADY OF LOURDES COLLEGE

of the buzzwords for student’s commitment towards their performance

on academics, student’s relation with fellow students, the more they try

or worry the less they can study effectively (Albers et al, 2017).

Although stress is common in all aspects of modern daily life, the stress

levels of students are particularly intense because students must face

many new challenges. These challenges include getting along with new

peers, adapting to a new living environment, and facing financial

pressure. (Pedersen & Jodin, 2016).

III. Research Definition

(Statement of the Problem)

General Problem

Factors that can contribute on the academic performance of

the grade 12 students of Our Lady of Lourdes College

Research Question: 3-5

1. What is the demographic profile of the students in terms of

age and gender?

2. What are the factors that contribute and influence the

student’s academic performance?

3. Is there a significant relationship between the social well-

being of the students and their academic performance?

Hypothesis:

Ho: There is no significant relationship between the social well-

being and the academic performance of the students.

Ha: There is a significant relationship between the social well-

being and the academic performance of the students.

IV. Research Design

This study followed the quantitative approach, the descriptive –

survey research methodology. Descriptive - survey research included

studies give pertinent information about the elements that were

prevailing in the present times. It described and interpreted what is it

was concerned with existing conditions, ongoing processes, perceived

effects and developing trends. Moreover, descriptive-survey research

emphasized the interpretation of gathered data or the significance of

what is described. It includes studies and literatures that provide

information about the present state of the involved variables (Yazon et.

Al, 2019)

Data Collection Instrument

The researchers will provide a Likert scale questionnaire as

instrumentation for this quantitative research study. This

instrumentation is used to gather data information from the

respondents.

Scope/delimitation

The study is covered with thirty (30) respondents from the grade

12 senior high school students who have experienced struggling in their

performance in school. The study includes questionnaires in Likert scale

where students measure the degree of their opinions to gather

information. The study will gather data and information on what are the

factors that contribute to the academic performance of the students.

Sample

The researchers will use stratified random sampling, the

researchers use this technique to be fair in every respondent or to avoid

biased results.

Data Collection Procedure

For the purpose of this study, the respondents will be given a

Likert scale questionnaire which they can answer voluntary. The results

of the data will be the researcher’s basis for the analysis, interpretation,

findings and conclusion and the recommendation of the study. The

researcher used a Likert Scale questionnaire as major instrument to

collect data and information. All questions were closed question; it is a

document that consists of a set of standardized questions which

specifies the exact wording and order of the questions, for gathering

information from respondents. The survey will conducted to the grade

12 senior high school students. The researchers will make sure the

anonymity and confidentiality of the respondents.

Planned Data Analysis

The researchers will interprets data through data-collecting

process with the use of table.

Research Ethics

We will interpret data through the data-collecting process in all

aspects of the research, and we will applied research methodology in

our procedure. We will not utilize plagiarism in this study since it is a

type of theft or stealing someone else's ideas. We will used citations to

show that we took an idea from another article and provided a reference

to that source to show where the original information originated from,

and we will make sure to give them proper credit. Also, the researchers

will make sure the anonymity and confidentiality of the respondents.

Budget

The researchers range for all expenses will be around 1,000 to

5,000 pesos.
