High School Drama – FREE Double Lesson plan

Lesson One....Making a start.....

There are four things I need you to comply with in Drama.....

1) This is a safe place, where you need to be able to express yourself

without being ridiculed or laughed at...that is paramount
2) 100% participation..this is an elective...I expect you to get into it...
3) When I ask you to ‘STOP’ the drama...it must happen immediately.
There will be some things we will be exploring that will trigger strong
emotional responses from some of you...I need to know that you guys
are mature enough to be able to stop when I ask you to.
4) No Swearing policy 

Warm-ups

When you play footie/netball/hockey etc you always have to warm-up

your body...in Drama we need to warm up our imagination

Emotion walk – start by walking around the room, on hot coals, walking down
a crowded street, skipping, crawling, tip-toeing, walking down the street to try
and get away from someone, dragging arms like a monkey, jumping, pulling
your body on the ground with your arms. STOP WHERE YOU ARE.

 Take them on a tour, you are now crawling through the grass on your
elbows as quietly as you can so the enemy can’t see you, and you have
just realized there are biting ants nest next to you so move away quickly
but quietly!!, crawling on your hands and knees now, through deep
mud, that is really cold, now it is raining, someone is chasing you,
………..stop.
What are you doing?

 Group gets in a line.  The first person enters the space and begins to
pantomime a simple activity--for example, brushing his teeth.
 The second person enters and says, "What are you doing?"
 The first person may answer anything EXCEPT what he is actually doing.
He might say, "I'm washing the car." It is meant to be FAST
 The moment the second person hears the answer, she must begin to act
the new activity.
 The first person goes to the end of the line and the third person runs on
and says, "What are you doing?"
