William Ernest Henley's Invictus is a moving poem.

This poem shows the poet's attempt

to motivate himself when there is absolutely no hope. When the poet wrote this poem,
he had already lost one leg. Therefore, in such a situation of mental and physical pain,
the poet tries to increase his courage.

At the beginning of the poem, the poet says he wants to thank God. In fact, he admits
that his life is hopeless. Rather, his future is as dark as an abyss. But at the same time
he thanks God for his "invincible soul." No pain, he says, can bend his soul.
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul. (Invictus)
Finally, he claims that he was always invincible when he got within trouble.
Circumstances have tried to damage him, however, but he regularly fights back with
courage, in fact he has even bled and suffered due to hardships, he admits. But he never
allowed them to nod their heads and cry in fear.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed. (Invictus)
In the tertiary stanza the poet states that fear always lurks later than him. But it doesn't
always scare him. Whenever threats and problems came into his life, he bravely faced
them.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid. (Invictus)
Finally, in the final stanza, Henry says that although the gates of life are narrow, he will
undoubtedly passage through them majestically. To do. He also claims to be the
commander of his own feeling.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul. (Invictus)
Henry says that although the gates of life are narrow, he will undoubtedly passage
through them majestically. To do. He also claims to be the commander of his own
feeling.
