CFC SINGLES FOR CHRIST

FAMILY IS A GIFT

FAMILY HISTORY

ANCHOR VERSE:
“God blessed them and God said to them: Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have
dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that crawl on the
earth.” - Genesis 1:28 NABRE

THE GRACE WE SEEK:

We ask for the grace to see the beauty of belonging to a family no matter the realities of each
family.

ACTIVITY:
Go through old family photos. Dig out the photo albums or flip through your digital images for a
trip down memory lane and reminisce about the good times at the same time. Post an old family
photo on all your social media accounts using these hashtags: #FamilyinChrist and #FamilyisaGift

TOPIC:
A family tree reveals our connections to our ancestors. Family history goes much deeper than
that. Learning about our family history is like giving our family tree stronger roots from which to
grow and celebrate family traditions. Understanding where we came from can open our eyes to
how special we are. Discovering family history allows us to connect with family members we may
have never encountered and can strengthen our existing relationships.
Old photographs, letters and diaries can help us discover what our ancestors were like and what
life was like for them. We may discover a long-lost brother, aunt or cousin. We might learn
something about our family that helps us to connect on a deeper level. Learning about their stories
and how they overcame difficult times can provide the courage and strength we may need to
overcome our challenges. In essence, knowing our family history can build our resilience and help
shape us into a more grateful and empathetic version of ourselves.
Our family history is a story of God’s love and mercy. As we look back on the journey of our
ancestors, we see God’s faithfulness and goodness in our lives. We are born out of love and are
encouraged to spread the love to our family first, community, and world. Amoris Laetitia Number
53 states, “The strength of the family lies in its capacity to love and to teach how to love. For all a
family’s problems, it can always grow, beginning with love”.
This month of September, we celebrate God’s masterpiece - our family. Let us ponder on the life
of Joseph, Mary and Jesus and seek to make their family relationship the model for how to love
others. May their perfect communion of love be a model for us all.

GUIDE QUESTION:
1. What are things you can do to strengthen family ties and be fully present to them?
