Ground fault on Autrosafe systems.

To troubleshoot an earth fault please try the following steps;

1. Measure the voltage between battery minus and vessel ground. Normally you should have approx
3-5 V DC here. If voltage is between 0 and 3 V, the earth fault is to minus, if other the earth fault is
probably towards plus.

2. Keep the measurement between battery minus and earth all the time to monitor the earth fault while
troubleshooting (Below 3V here, and the ground fault to minus is there). If the area with the ground
fault is disconnected, voltage here will immediately return to normal values 3,2-5V DC)

3. Take out all fuses on the mains and emergency supply, leaving the system running on batteries,
verify if fault still present. Restore fuses.

4. Disable the loops one by one (See below procedure), after the loop is software disabled, pull out the
contact on the disabled loop from the BSD-310 module. (See below procedure to disable/ enable
loops). Observe volt-metre when disabling and pulling off the loop cable. Ground fault to minus will
disappear by software loop disable on the panel, ground fault to plus will disappear when pulling off
the loop plug physically.

5. Once the loop containing the ground fault is located (Most commonly, earth faults are on one of the
loops), the loop must be investigated for earth fault. If fault is on plus wire, you can use a regular
ohm-metre and measure between the plus wire in one of the detector sockets (terminal 3, Loop
disabled, and disconnected) and ground, and check what resistance value you get, then move to
another point in the loop, and do the same measurement. If resistance is increasing, you are moving
away from the fault, if resistance decreases you are moving towards the fault. If earth fault is located
to the minus wire on one loop, you must connect and enable the loop. Then do the following:
 Disconnect the loop minus return (terminal 5 on the BSD-310 module for this loop)
 When you take down a detector now, you will loose the detectors between the one you
remove and the return side of the loop driver. By removing small parts of the loop at the time,
and observing the volt measurement between system minus and ground, you can observe
when the part of the loop containing the ground fault is taken out (Keeping an eye on the
battery voltage under 2. above).
 Once the area containing the ground fault is located, you must use a multimeter and measure
between loop minus and ground between each detector in the area to find the wire giving
earth fault.

Disable / enable loops

Important notice!! Disabling a loop in the autrosafe system must not be done in the event of ”open
loop” fault in the system. If an incomplete loop is disabled, you will not be able to enable the loop
again until the loop break has been rectified (The disabled loop will not indicate break location!!).

Main menu->4. System-> 3. Access level 3-> 1. Enter Access level 3->Password “9999”, press enter
twice, “Succeeded” will be shown in the lower part or the screen
Press the “X” button several times to get back to the main menu.

Menu-> 5.Service-> 3.Loop commands-> 2.Disable (3. Enable) loop

Note – System will remain in access level 3 approx 30 minutes, unless choosing “Leave access level
3” from the menu. In access level 3, internal buzzer will be disabled, and in case of a fire alarm, only
the “Fire” sign will flash the two minutes before the alarm is activated. Leaving access level 3 will not
enable disabled loops.
