FOOD SERVICE INDUSTRY

NATALIE JUNE JAMILI

STUDENT NUMBER: 1128-3241-3

COURSE NAME: OFFICE ADMINISTRATION

COURSE NUMBER:

TECAHER’S NAME: RAYA ELRAFIE

DATE: JUNE 26,2021

Natalie June Jamili was born on June 24, 1981, in the small town of Isabela,
Negros Occidental. She has five siblings and is now currently residing at Calgary,
Alberta, Canada with her own family. She only has one son and she is also giving
financial support for her family in the Philippines. She is currently working or involved in
food production industry specifically in chicken production. Natalie is determined in
making their financial status stable to provide a better future for her family and for her
son. She is someone who takes financial risks in order to make her idea a reality. When
she was still a kid, her mother used to bring her to church every Sunday and would buy
her street foods after the mass. As she grew older, she still likes to eat street foods and
was fond of cooking it for herself and for her family. Here in Canada, you can seldom
see vendors selling Filipino street food but despite that, her love for Filipino street foods
didn’t waver. She once tried to sell street foods in their area but unfortunately, no matter
how hard she worked for it, she could not find out how to make her business profitable.
Aside from that, there are only few customers who liked Filipino street food here in
Canada maybe because Canadians have different taste buds or preferences and they
are not used in eating those kinds of foods. Despite of the failure that she had
experienced, she did not give up and still wants to continue venturing in this type of
business. Natalie once again wants to start a business but this time, she would
establish her business back in her hometown, Isabela, Negros Occidental. She figured
out that the best people who would appreciate Filipino street foods as much as she
does are the Filipino’s themselves. With her partner, Regie Jamili, her brother and the
staffs together with her determination and passion for Filipino foods and snacks, she will
make sure that starting up her a business in the Philippines will be a successful one.

Food service business and industry is the type of field that I want to venture in. It
includes all of the activities, services, and business operations that go into preparing
and providing meals to people who aren't dining at home. Defensive or reactive
innovation in equipment design and layout, packaging, and servicing approaches are
prevalent in this kind of business and industry. This includes quicker and effective
preparation procedures, increased temperature control, even heating, energy and labor
savings, reduced waste, increased cleanliness, faster service, and flexibility. Although
the food service industry is now currently experiencing a great challenge which is the
covid19 pandemic but I still chose this kind of industry because there is optimism that
the future of this type of business and sector will be brighter. While the "new normal" will
be with us for a while, we will demonstrate a willingness to accept new prospects in the
industry. We will be gaining customers after Covid by still practicing and showing safety
measures and providing a product that is appealing enough to get people visit our
establishment and buy the products that we offer.
There are millions of Filipinos living all over the world, but despite their easy
adaptable to their new environment they still have retained their tail for Filipino food.
Filipino cooking reflects this cultural combination. The result is an exotic blend that is
characteristically unique though the variety of regional dishes is never ending source of
gourmet surprises. Filipinos are also known or fond of eating street foods or pagkaing
kalye. It is a wide variety of inexpensive cuisine that you can buy from vendors or
peddlers on the streets, that is why Filipino’s love it so much and it is also an important
part of the Filipino culture. Because of its popularity, the partners Natalie June Dacanay
and Regie Jamili saw an opportunity to conduct or start-up a business which is named
as FilYums. FilYums came from the combined words “Filipino” and “Yummy Foods”
together with our tagline “Fill your stomach with these Filipino Yummy Foods”. FilYums
offer Filipino delicacies and street foods which includes turon - a Filipino Delicacies that
is cooked gently with banana and topped with condensed milk, lumpia shanghai - a
Filipino Delicacies that is cooked gently with pork and vegetables inside the lumpia
wrapper and can be dipped with ketchup, panroll - a Filipino Delicacies and street food
that is fried with hotdog and rolled into bread crumps and topped with a sauce, dynamite
- a spicy kind made with green chili papper stuffed with ground meat with cheese
wrapped with lumpia or spring roll rapper, french fries, tempura - a common Filipino
street food that is fried with shelled shrimp and dipped in batter or even with vegetables,
fishball - a common Filipino street food that is made with fish paste and boiled in a
soupy broth or deep fried, and kwek-kwek - a well – known Filipino street food that is
fried with an egg; coated in an orange colored mixture. Our purpose is to promote and
preserve Filipino food culture through FilYums foods and delicacies and our product can
satisfy or are suitable to the taste of Filipinos in all ages. Our vision is to the be most –
bestselling product. Being the best means promoting and preserving Filipino food
Culture through FilYums’ Delicacies and Street Foods. While our mission aims to satisfy
the customer’s stomach and to serve yummy and affordable foods. With these goals,
vision and mission we will be able to guide our business towards the path of success in
spite of all the struggles, failures and mistakes that we, our business may face. Our
business will be established at Isabela, Negros Occidental public plaza since the place
are visited by numerous people and is located at the heart of the municipality. The place
still lacks food establishment that can suffice the needs and stomach of the people. For
that reason, we saw an opportunity to establish our business there since we only have
few competitors and gives us various opportunities for our business’s success.
I and my partner will be the manager of the business. We will hire one person for the
marketing, one person for the accounting and two persons for the operation, one is the
supplier in charge and the other is the cook. The manager will be responsible for
decision making, monitor the business, guide and manage the employees, make sure
that the business is doing well, double check the sales in the cashier, and make sure
that all the materials are complete and in proper order. The marketing will advertise the
products to the target customers, posting tarpapers and giving flyers, tell the customers
where the business is located, and persuade the customers to buy the product. The
accounting (cashier) will be responsible in budgeting the money as well as to keep safe
the money, prepare Income Financial Statement, responsible for the Budget in
allocating in different department, responsible for making reliable Income Statement and
to make sure that the business could gain profit and avoid losses. Lastly, the operation,
the supplier in charge will buy the products and other ingredients needed, look for the
low-cost products, look for the good quality products, and buy the needed materials and
ingredients, while the cook will make sure that the measurement of the products is right,
cook the right order of the customers, utilize the ingredients efficiently, and make sure to
cook a good quality product. As stated above, we will be hiring a total of four employees
in running this business.
The forecasted sales per day is 1,600 pesos. The net sales revenue is 9865 pesos.
After deducting the cost of sales and operating expenses, the net income or net profit is
2,503 Philippine peso. In order to establish and start up our business, we need to rent a
place in the public plaza, and buy the necessary ingredients, tools, and materials.
Computing all the total operating expenses, it would be 7,212 pesos.
Our targeted audience are the local residents and tourists in all ages because this
type of business and our food can be enjoyed by the kids and adults. However, a great
number of students are most likely to buy our product since our business is located near
the public and private schools. Nonetheless, regardless of your socioeconomic status,
you may still purchase our items because it is very affordable and fits right in your
budget. We will market and advertise our business or products through sales promotion,
personal selling and promos. For the sales promotion, the strategic marketing is to
promote our products and to inform possible customers about business and the tactical
marketing is to approach the target customers, tell them where the business is located
and when it will open, if there’s any question about the products the person/s who are
assigned of giving the products are the one who will answer or explain. While on the
personal selling, our strategic marketing is to persuade our customers to visit our
business and buy our products and the tactical marketing is to go to different areas in
the municipality to promote and to tell them about our business and the products that
we sell, if the person is not interested with our product, we will look for another target
customer and if there is no one visiting our business, we will room around our products.
For the promos, it will be posted on the flyers for them to be informed that we have a
discounted price for the first seven customers. In addition, we will also utilize social
media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok, etc. or even make a
blog/vlog and would create a business page where we would let people see the
products that we offer and everything that they need to know about the business.
The accounting person will be responsible for keeping our finances checked and
organized. He/she will create and prepare an Income Financial Statement to assess our
financial well-being and the progress we've achieved financially through time.  It will also
enable us in determining if we are profitable or not, and why. Through this, we will be
able to determine our success and learn from the mistakes or failures that we have
made in operating the business.
To sum up everything that has been stated, Natalie June Jamili is my chosen
entrepreneur and the business and industry that she wants to be involved in is food
service industry, together with her partner Regie Jamili (her brother) and the staffs will
make sure that starting up her business will be a successful one. Although the food
service industry is now currently experiencing a great challenge which is the covid19
pandemic but they still chose this kind of industry because there is optimism that the
future of this type of business and sector will be brighter. The business will be
established at the public plaza of Isabela, Negros Occidental since Filipinos are known
for their love of street meals which is defined as a broad range of cheap cuisine
available from street sellers or peddlers. The partners Natalie June Dacanay and Regie
Jamili recognized an opportunity to operate or create a business called FilYums as a
result of its popularity. The products that will be offered are turon, lumpia shanghai,
panroll, dynamite, french fries, tempura, fishball and kwek-kwek. The business will
operate by having me, Natalie Jamili and my partner, Regie Jamili, as managers, one
person is in charge of marketing, another is in charge of accounting, and two people are
in charge of operations, one of them is the supplier in charge and the other is the cook.
Hence, we will hire a total of four employees to run our business. In addition, because
this sort of business and our products can be enjoyed by children as well as the adults,
our target audience are the local residents and visitors of all ages. Sales promotion,
personal selling, and promotions will be used to promote and publicize our business as
well as our products. We will also use different social media platforms to reach out to
more potential consumers. Lastly, we will have an accounting employee will be in
charge of keeping track of and organizing our money. He or she will manually design
and compile an Income Financial Statement to help us determine whether our business
is profitable or not.
I have a deep understand that operating a business is not easy, and making it
successful is much more difficult. It will undoubtedly be a difficult road and journey to
take. There would be consumers' expectations of our business/products, mistakes in
decision-making, and customer complaints, but these complaints would be an
opportunity for us to improve our business and make it more appealing and better. We
would interpret that as positive consumer feedback rather than a negative reflection on
our business. Customers are the ones who utilize your products; thus, customer
complaints and comments should be a key concern when running a business. For the
success of your business, you must be flexible in changing and adjusting to the needs
of your consumers. That is why with my dedication, enthusiasm, and open mind, I will
not allow my failures dissuade me; instead, I will use them as a stepping stone toward
my business's goals and aspirations.
In this part, the computation for net profit or income and operating expenses will be
shown:
