Task 2: Still Counting

List at least 10 examples or situations that show one’s Eco literacy.
1. Avoid or decrease unnecessary disruption of life-sustaining networks
within and between ecosystems.
2. Clean and green projects and clean up drive
3. Proper waste management in community
4. Water conservation
5. Choosing non-toxic chemicals
6. Building a greenhouse in the community
7. Keeping the garden or greenspace chemical free
8. Reduce carbon footprint
9. Stop littering
10. Volunteering for a wildlife or environmental organization

Task 3: Let’s Dig Deeper

Read David Sobel’s Place-based Education in your google class then,
provide comprehensive answers to the questions that follow:

1. What is place-based learning?

Place-based learning is a practice that makes use of physical
locations and the resources they contain to promote cross-
disciplinary learning. The cultures, histories, or geophysical
characteristics of a location can be included. The goal of place-
based learning is to help people develop a feeling of place in their
community. Through this activity, kids learn about, appreciate,
and care for their communities, which promotes good citizenship.

2. What new insights about place-based education can you share?

Place-based education raises students' awareness and engagement
in the ecosystems and communities in which they live. As a result,
students develop agency, critical thinking, and a sense of
responsibility to the earth, and they are equipped to advocate for
environmental and social sustainability.

3. What activities that employ place-based learning can you suggest?

Summer camps, fieldtrips, virtual tours, outside/community
activities.

4. How is relationship or linkage between school and community

enhanced through place-based learning?
Place-based education strengthens students' connections to their
surroundings and fosters vibrant partnerships between schools
and communities. It improves environmental, social, and economic
vitality as well as student achievement. Also, it teaches students
how to care for the environment by understanding where they live
and taking action in their own neighborhoods and communities. In
short, it improves the student’s academic outcomes and also it
increases the engagement of students with other people.
Task 4: This is it!

Think of a school/community problem and suggest ways to respond to this

identified sustainability crisis you are facing. Provide details of the following:

1. Knowledge. This pertains to all the information, including the current

situation, about the issue/problem. This also includes your specific
viewpoints through which you understood and analyzed the issues
Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in
relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social
behavior that intends to cause physical, social and/or
psychological harm. Bullying can happen at school, at home or
online. It is never okay and it is not a normal part of growing up.

2. Issues. These are the problems/ crises that need to be resolved.

Verbal, social and physical bullying in school

3. Skills. These refer to the needed practical capacities which you can use
to
contribute to sustainability.
Improve students social skills such as build self-esteem, foster
friendships, teach assertiveness, instill respectfulness, cultivate
resiliency, and model empathy. This can help learners to protect
them against bullying

4. Actions. These denote the concrete steps to address the issue. Morals
and ideals are transformed into observable behaviors and evidences of
outcomes are expected.
Clearly communicate policy and protocols for bullying behaviors to
all staff, students and parents
Empower bystanders to promote and take responsibility for
creating a safe and welcoming environment
Provide a means for safely reporting bullying behaviors
Adopt a social skills and social emotional learning curriculum
Monitor and adjust local bullying prevention program based on
analysis of local school data and best practices in the field of
bullying prevention (change in supervision, use of resources,
methods of communication, reporting procedures, etc.)
Improve school environment; students need to feel safe and
supported by their school
Work to foster positive student teacher relationships
