Organizations need to evaluate the performance of employees, performance is usually evaluated

upon the KPI that is set by the employees together with their supervisors at the time of signing
the contract and these may be amended after a given period. The KPIs are generated from the
job description They are the targets that have to be met in a given period. Performance
evaluation is done to assess how well the set targets have been achieved, the suitability of the
employee for the job, teamwork, and time management among other yardsticks.

There are various ways through which evaluation is done, In my past jobs we had self-
assessment, peer review, and supervisor review. HR review and review by the Executive Director.
It was a 360 review. In other organizations, it is only done by the HRM.

In my line of work as a Finance personnel, the main important job duties were;
Submission of Financial report by the 10th day of the next moment. We had a deliverable to
prepare a donor report monthly, this had to be presented to the supervisor and ultimately
submitted to the donor. The KPI was to have the report submitted to the donor in the stipulated
timeline. Failure to submit the report to the donor had consequences regardless of whether you
did your part as the preparer but the supervisors for some reason did not submit it. We would
have failed on the deliverable as a department.

Filing and payment of statutory deductions by the 15th day of the subsequent month. We had
to submit monthly employee deductions to the respective regulatory bodies, failure to comply
with the due dates attracts penalties, the bodies included revenue Autoturites and Security
Fund.

Reconciliation of organization accounts by the 10th day of the subsequent month. all
organization bank accounts had to be reconciled with the cash transactions. To achieve this, all
transactions for the month had to be posted in the system promptly.

I did not have challenges using the method because it was part of the organization’s culture and
it would be discussed during the onboarding process. The KPIs were set with the supervisor and
it was known that evaluation would be based on that.
