USING MULTI-MEDIA RESOURCES IN INFORMATION ENVIRONMENT

(Q3-MELC1)

 MULTI-MEDIA
- The word multi-media comes from the Latin words multi and media. The word
multi means several or many and media means in the middle or
communication.
- Multi-media is a form of communication that combines or uses different forms
such as texts, audios, images, animations, still images, animation, video, and
interactivity are combines, the result is multimedia.

 ELEMENTS OF MULTI-MEDIA
1. TEXT
- Text is the most fundamental element and most effective way to communicate
in multi-media. Its purpose is to express specific information or reinforce
information in other media. It involves the use of text types, sizes, colors, and
background color.
- Text is the most common among the five elements of multi-media.

2. GRAPHICS
- Graphics is the use of diagrams in calculation and design. Graphics use
images that do not move including photographs, illustrations, drawing, clip art,
icons or any other non-text elements on website or in social media.
- Graphics is the digital representations of non-text information. They give ideas
in the images with the help of memory and one of the oldest form of media.

3. ANIMATION
- Animation is a series of images put together to give effect of movement which
is useful for illustrating concepts that involves movement. It used to add visual
interest or bring attention to important information or links. It can illustrate
how things work or how to present information in entertaining ways.

4. AUDIO
- Audio is a multi-media application that uses dialogue, recorded narration,
music sound effects.

5. VIDEO
- Video is a visual multi-media application that combines a sequence of images
to form moving pictures and sounds.

 EXAMPLES OF MULTI-MEDIA RESOURCES


1. TEXT AND GRAPHICS
1.1. Slideshows or Presentation – a presentation of a series of still images
on a projection screen or electronic display device, typically in a
prearranged sequence.
- A slideshow or presentations are comprised of slides, which may contain
text, images, and other media, such as audio clips and movies. This
resource is best to use in giving information, instructions, making
explanations and in narrating events

1.2. Diagrams – a simplified drawing showing the appearance, structure, or


workings of something: a schematic representation.

1.3. Infographics – is a collection of images, charts, and minimal text that


gives an easy-to-understand information of a topic.

2. AUDIO
2.1 Radio – is a sound communication by radio waves, usually through
transmission of music, news, and other types of programs from single
broadcast stations to multitudes of individual listeners equipped with
radio receivers.
- It is an effectual system for delivery of education to larger numbers of
people. It facilitates information exchange at the community level, acting
as a “community telephone”. Radio plays a vital educational role as the
sole medium for formal and non-formal education.

3. VIDEO
3.1. Screen Capture – a screenshot, also known as screen capture, or screen
grab, is a digital image that shows the contents of a computer display.

3.2. Lecture Capture or Recording – lecture recording refers to the process


of recording and archiving the content of lecture, conference, or seminar.

3.3. Talking Head – refers to a commentator or reporter on television who


addresses the camera and is viewed in close-up.

3.4. Television – refers to a system for transmitting visual images and


sounds that are reproduced on screens, chiefly used to broadcast
programs for entertainment, information, and education.
- Instructional Television – is the use of television programs in the field
of distance education.

4. OTHERS
1. Webinars and Online Meetings – a webinar presentation generally brings
one or a few speakers to online audience of many. These can be run live,
pre-recorded live, or made available for on demand viewing.

2. Blogs – a blog is a discussion or information website published on the World


Wide Web typically one run by an individual or small group, which is written
in an informal or conventional style.
