1. How did our national hero get his


surname Rizal ?

The surname Rizal was involuntary beyond young Jose.


When he join in the Ateneo Munical (now Ateneo De


Manila University). To secure him from the horrible


past of the name Mercado. Because of his older


brother Paciano Mercado's relationship with


GomBurZa's Father Jose Burgos. To keep the friars


from discovering their allegiance, he renamed his


brother's surname from Mercado to Rizal as a caring


brother.

2. Describe Rizal ’ s dail y schedule of


activities in Binan , Laguna when he was nine
years ol d.
Rizal went on to study in the towns of Calamba and Binan. It was

normal schooling for a son of an upper-class family of the time,


with the four R's (reading, writing, arithmetic, and religion)

3. While as a student in Manila, what


degrees did he (Rizal) finish?

Rizal eventually earned a land surveyor’s and assessor’s


degree from the Ateneo Municipal while taking up


Philosophy and Letters at the University of Santo


Tomas. Rizal chose to study ophthalmology at the UST


Faculty of Medicine and Surgery after learning that his


mother was going blind. He was unable to finish the


course, however, because "he became politically


isolated by opponents among the academics and


priests who demanded that he adhere to their ideology."


4. What pact did Rizal and his only brother


Paciano have in going to Europe?
Paciano wake Jose Rizal up early on the 1st may 1882. Paciano

was deepest influence on Rizal after his parents. The "pact" for
the love of the native country. His brother Paciano did
everything to ensure that Rizal can leave the country secretly
Rizal and Paciano made a private agreement in 1882: Rizal
would travel to Europe to finish his medical studies.

permission of his brother Paciano:
To prepare for the big mission of conquering the Philippines
from Spanish rule. He studied the life and culture of European
nations, their languages and customs, their industries and
commerce, and their governments and laws.

his second return to Europe?

Rizal came to Madrid


in September 1882 after
leaving the Philippines on
May 3, 1882. He enrolled in
the Universidad Central de
Madrid in Spain to study
medicine painting at Madrid's

and the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San
Fernando in Calle Alcala.
He went to France in June
1883 to examine how
medicine was performed
there.

Who was she? What
happened then?

Yes. Also known as, the daughter of the owner, Consuelo


Ortiga y Rey caught Rizal's fancy. However, Consuelo was
torn between Rizal and de Lete. Her name was Consuelo, She
was the daughter of Don Pablo Ortiga y Rey, a former mayor
of Manila who later became vice-president of the Council of
the Philippines in the Ministry of Colonies. Because
Consuelo’s father was very supportive of the Filipinos
studying in Madrid, their house became a meeting place of
Circulo Hispano-Filipino members like Rizal. Rizal apparently
wanted a connection with Consuelo, but he was unable to
pursue it due to two main reasons: his friend had affections
for her as well he did not want to ruin their friendship, and he
was still committed to Leonor Rivera.

7. When did Rizal start writing the


novel, “Noli Me Tangere? “ What
inspired him to do it alone?

Noli me Tangere was composed in Madrid, Spain,


between 1884 and 1885, while Dr. José P. Rizal was
studying medicine. Rizal began to write the second
half of Noli me Tangere on February 21, 1887, when
in Germany. After reading Harriet Beecher Stowe's
work Uncle Tom's Cabin, he was inspired to create
his novel about the same subject–to expose Spanish
colonial abuse in literature. The novel by Beecher
Stowe shows white men abusing African slaves.
Through letters, Rizal proposed to his other Filipino
friends in Europe that they meet and plan to write a
novel like to Beecher Stowe's. Lastly, When the
writing began, most of them felt forced to change
the subject from Spanish abuse to something
relating to women. Rizal left the room and declared
that he would write the novel independently.
