1. What is steganography? Describe by your own words!

2. Give the explanation about the history of steganography!

3. What are the techniques of steganography? Explain!

4. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of steganography! (Min. 3)

ANSWER!!

1. Steganography is the technique of hiding secret data within an ordinary, non-secret, file or
message in order to avoid detection; the secret data is then extracted at its destination.
2. Traces of steganography already existed in ancient Greece, when Herodotus narrated two
examples in his Stories, but the first recorded use of the term was in 1499 by Johannes
Trithemius in his Steganographia, a treatise on cryptography and steganography, disguised as a
book about magic.
3. Steganography is the technique of hiding secret data within an ordinary, non-secret, file or
message in order to avoid detection; the secret data is then extracted at its destination. The use
of steganography can be combined with encryption as an extra step for hiding or protecting
data.
4. Advantages : 1. Hard to detect. Original image is very similar to altered image. Embedded data
resembles Gaussian noise. 2. Altered picture closely resembles original. Not susceptible to
attacks such as rotation and translation.3. Hard to detect as message and fundamental image
data share same range.
WEAKNESS :1. Message is hard to recover if image is subject to attack such as translation and
rotation. 2. Significant damage to picture appearance. Message difficult to recover. 3.
Relatively easy to detect, as our project has shown.
