We conducted interviews with two different generations as a part of our assignment.

It was a
very good, unique and informative experience for us as it helped us to understand the
difference of thoughts and experiences of different generations. Further details of the
interviews are as follows;

The first question of the interview was about the favourite moment of childhood. In
response to this question, my grandfather described his childhood days, when his father died.
Being the eldest in the family, all responsibilities fell on him. In 8th grade, he got the
scholarship & he spent it to buy ration. It was his best childhood memory as it saved his
family from hunger. My grandmother responded by revealing that her favourite childhood
memory was the creation of Pakistan. She was six years old when Pakistan Resolution was
passed and Muhammad Ali Jinnah succeeded in fulfilling the dream of Pakistan. My father
referred to his childhood trip to England. As it was his first international trip so those were
his favourite childhood moments. My mother told me that in childhood, all her friends used
to gather in a park and play different games. Those were the most enjoyable days she spent.

The second question was about professional life. My grandfather mentioned his success story
saying that there were many responsibilities on him during his young age. Being the head of
his family, he had to study as well as earn. After completing matric, he joined Pakistan
Railways. He cleared many professional exams and finally his hard work paid back when he
was promoted to Accounting Officer. My grandmother answered by saying that female
education was not common at that time. So, she spent her time in cooking, sewing and other
household chores. My father also told me that after intermediate, he applied for the Army
and it was the most significant change in his life. The training period was probably the best
time of his life. Despite the workload and pressures in life, he never gave up and those
memories still cherish him. My mother revealed her inspirational story. She said that since
childhood, her dream was to become a doctor and serve humanity. It remained her goal in
life till she achieved it. She studied hard and completed M.B.B.S. She managed office work
as well as house work and never gave up on her objectives.

The third question was about the outlook on life. My grandfather answered saying that life is
unpredictable and it tests you unexpectedly. The lesson he learnt is that, hardships reveal
your true companions. Grandmother responded by saying that life is a test but in every
difficulty, one must put all his faith in God. The lesson she had learnt is that even if the entire
universe is against us, we should not give up our faith. While answering this question, my
father revealed that the most important lesson he had learnt in his life is that one should
never give up. In addition, he said that mostly humble and honest people are successful. My
mother answered that life itself is a test for humans. To be successful, hard work and luck
both matter. According to her, hard work and initiative are must and the rest should be left to
God.
The fourth question was about the changes observed during life and their causes. In response,
my grandfather stated that with the passage of time, people had become fake and artificial.
My grandmother’s response was also similar that a materialistic approach has emerged. My
father explained that at the time of his childhood, technology had not evolved this much and
people were social and active. As technology advanced, instead of bringing people closer, it
increased differences and due to many reasons, moral and traditional values have started
disappearing from society. On the other hand, my mother described the advancements in the
field of medical science with the passage of time and its benefits.

The last Question of the interview was that if given a chance, what would be the one thing
interviewees would change about life. My grandfather replied saying that he wanted to
remove fakeness from this world, so that no one deceives or hurts others. As a result,
happiness would prevail in the society. My grandmother’s answer was also similar. She said
that if she was given this chance, she would have added emotions and feelings in the hearts
of others, made their hearts soft so that they start living for others. My father and mother said
that if such an opportunity is given to them, they would make the past better based on the
lessons they had learnt.

From the answers of two different generations, we concluded that with the passage of time,
mankind progressed much in the every known field of life but this progress has brought the
fakeness in our behaviours. In nutshell, with the flow of time, man learnt how to reach on the
moon, but he forgot about the life on Earth.
