Marks will be awarded as follows:


(1) Content - 10 marks
(2) Organization of Content - 10 marks
(3) Language Usage, Mechanics - 10 marks

1. CONTENT
The answer will be judged for its adequacy with respect to the following criteria:
• Format and conventions - 3 marks
• Relevance - 2 marks
• Clarity of information - 2 marks
• Accuracy, completeness - 3 marks

2. ORGANIZATION OF CONTENT
Arrangement of information with regard to
• sequencing,(presentation of information guided by sub-topics) - 2 marks
• coherence, (relationships and connections are clear - 3 marks
• conciseness (avoids repetition and long-windedness) - 3 marks
• sense of audience (appropriate appeals are in place. - 2 marks
E.g: “thank you” recognition of a need such as ‘security’

3. LANGUAGE USAGE

The following will be considered in awarding the grades:


(i) Correct use of Structure and language

- Sentences must be complete


- Sentences must be clear in meaning
- There must be effective and appropriate transition between
ideas and paragraphs
- Adverbs and adjectives correctly used.
- Subjects and verbs must agree
- Pronouns must agree with their antecedents
- There must be consistency in the use of tense - 7 marks

(ii) Accuracy of mechanics

Correct spelling and punctuation (for example, use of capitals,


full stops, commas, question marks, apostrophes, semicolons,
hyphens). - 3 marks

NB: The ability to organize information and to use Standard English is tied to the
understanding and use of “Content” or following the directives given. A response
which “Demonstrates Incompetence” (Range 1) is restricted to Range 1 (3 marks) for
both ‘Organisation and Structure’ and “Language Usage”.

Question 2 – Sample Letter

National Museum
July 06, 2017

Dear Patrons,

We the management of the National Museum thank you for your patronage and wish to inform
you of changes made in our operations. These have been made to improve our service to you.

The following changes have been made. Firstly, the hours of business will no longer be the
same. We will be operating from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30
p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the museum will be operating between the hours of 9:00 a.m.
and 5:00 p.m. Another change is the rates to be charged to patrons. Adults will now pay
$15, senior citizens will pay $7, while children will pay $5.

We at Les Paradis can also organize guided tours to the museum for parties of six or more
persons. Further, the patrons can also view paintings of Dunstan St. Omer.

Persons who are interested in visiting the museum have the option of purchasing tickets
online. We now have a website, and patrons may purchase tickets using the following address:
www.nationalmuseum.com. An added feature of the museum is that we have paid attention to
the security of patrons. The security of patrons is enhanced, since we have installed
closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
