It is important to remember that field trips have an educational purpose. As part of the planning
process, teachers take special care to ensure that field trip activities are directly connected to
Rhode Island Music Educators standards. Teachers rely on adult chaperones to help them carry out the
objectives of the field trip. Without your support, these school-sponsored field trips would not be possible.
Thank you for volunteering!

On school-sponsored field trips, the classroom teacher is the lead chaperone and primary
supervisor. Parent chaperones need to take direction from the classroom teacher. If
chaperones have questions, please clarify these with the classroom teacher. It is important that all
chaperones are communicating the same information to all students and holding all students
accountable to the same rules. In addition to having educational advantages, field trips should be fun!
We want chaperones to enjoy themselves. In order for everyone to have a good time, however, it is
important that everyone feels safe. Therefore, an organized and well-run field trip is essential. With that
in mind, we ask chaperones to sign the following contract.

Chaperone Name: _____________________________________________ (print)

1. I agree to perform the duties assigned to me by the classroom teacher.

2. I will remain on duty for the duration of the field trip.
3. I will serve as a positive role model for students and other adults.
4. I will clarify questions with the classroom teacher to ensure that I am supporting the learning
objectives of the field trip.
5. I will keep students assigned to me under my direct supervision at all times.
6. I will never permit a student to go somewhere alone.
7. I will refrain from personal business (phone calls, etc.) during my assigned supervisory duties.
8. I understand that I may not be welcome on future field trips if I break my promises.
9. I will complete and submit a BCI check to WHS Music.
