The Managed Switch provides a range of services for management, diagnostics, security,
performance, timing, and redundancy, allowing the switch operation to be tailored to the
application. The use of Managed Switches in Industrial Ethernet networks helps to eliminate
data collisions, increase network performance and availability, provide diagnostic and
operation information, while simplifying network design in industrial automation applications.
Features
> Managed Ethernet Switch with user configured services
and features
> Fiber Optic ports available in either Multi Mode type for
cable distances up to 5000 m or Single Mode type for up
to 32,500 m
Models
The ConneXium TCSESM163 family of Managed Ethernet Switches includes the following models:
Overview
The ConneXium model TCSESM163 family of Managed Ethernet Switch are layer 2 devices that
connects Ethernet devices to an Industrial Ethernet network. A description for the capabilities and
features that are available with the ConneXium Managed Ethernet Switches is provided below.
Diagnostic Features Log Files - HTML file that logs up to 2000 events with time stamp,
System File, HTML file that contains diagnostic information
SNMP Traps - User can configure switch to send SNMP traps for
configured switch parameters to a device with Network Management
Software that support SNMP Traps.
Port Mirroring - Copies data passing through one port
(source) to another port to allow troubleshooting with a network
protocol analysis tool.
. IEEE 802.1ab Topology Discovery - Enables the automatic detection
of devices and network topology mapping.
Redundancy Features RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) - Industry standard protocol
(IEEE 802.1) enabling deployment of ring and mesh architectures.
Ring Coupling – Interconnecting 2 ring that are using either the MRP
or HIPER-Ring protocols.
Security Features Port Security (IP and MAC address based) – Configuration setting
that restricts port access to devices with defined IP address or MAC
addresses.
Flow Control - Limits traffic during times of high traffic and transmits a
“Pause” frame to the end device to indicate that the device should stop
sending data.
Filtering Traffic Limiter - Used to limit the data rate for different types of
traffic, such as Broadcast and Multicast packets a switch
port can receive or transmit. Reduces the harmful effects of data storms
on the network.
EtherNet /IP Adapter Capability - The ability to function as an EtherNet/IP adapter for
implicit real-time I/O messaging and explicit messaging. Enables PLC access
to switch diagnostic data.

Network Architectures
Managed switches can be deployed in ring architectures to increase the networks ability to recover
from an inoperable device or cable break. The Connexium managed switches include 3 redundancy
protocols - RSTP, MRP, and HIPER-Ring,.
Below are 2 of the network ring architectures that the Connexium Managed Switches currently support.
Single Ring
Represents a control network in a single ring
structure to provide cable redundancy.
