The main purpose of informative or expository
communication or writing is to simply convey information
factually.

Its goal is to input new learning, enhance prior knowledge,


confirm a concept, alleviate comprehension of an idea, or
explain a process or procedure.

Public Speaking What is it?

Public speaking, also called as oratory or oration, is the


art of effective oral communication with an audience.

Public speaking is a way of making your ideas public -


sharing them with other people and of influencing
other people.

Read Speech
A read speech is a form of public speaking where the
orator/speaker presents through reading a
manuscript word-for-word. The written piece that
the speaker presents is prepared beforehand and is
usually rehearsed.
Memorized

A memorized speech
is the recitation of a
written message that
the speaker has
memorized and
rehearsed
beforehand.
Impromptu
Speech
An impromptu speech is a type of public speaking or
speech delivery that is not rehearsed. This type of
speaking is a presentation of a short message
without prior preparation. The speaker/orator must
be able to present ideas about the topic on the spot
and make stuff up as it goes.
Extemporaneous
Speech

This type of public speaking is the presentation of a


planned and rehearsed speech using minimal notes.

Proper pitching is also important especially in evoking

Pauses come in handy when emphasizing key points and


to observe the proper use of comas, periods, etc.

Vocal Variety is a term used by many speakers to


describe variations in the sounds created by speaking.

Pronunciation

Proper pronunciation of words should always be


observed by a public speaker to ensure that each word is
properly understood by the listener.

If someone is articulate, they speak words clearly, and


speakers should strive to speak clearly.

Movement

Body movements can be used to reinforce or emphasize


what a person is saying and also offer information about
the emotions and attitudes of a person. However, too
much movement can distract the audience.

Gestures such as
pointing, waving,
etc. are also often
used to emphasize
certain parts of the
presentation.

Eye Contact is very important if you want to engage the


audience in your presentation. This is an effective way
in evoking emotions to your audience.

specific, serious purpose
and that usually involves
asking and answering
questions.

Look for 2 Teachers / Educators that have been


teaching for AT LEAST 4 YEARS. Then conduct a
video recorded Interview about their Journey as a
Teacher.
