Intro: Today, I will introduce to you who is St. Giuseppe Moscati.

1st phrase: St. Giuseppe Moscati is a physician, Medical school professor, and
pioneer in the field of biochemistry, He was the first modern doctor to be
canonized in 1987 during the synod of bishops on the laity.

2nd phrase: St. Giuseppe Moscati was born on 25th of July 1880. He was born in
Benevento,Italy and Died on 12th of April at the age of 46 in Naples,Italy. His
Feast day is on 16th of November.

3rd phrase: After Giuseppe Moscati finish his elementary schooling in 1889, He
entered into the Liceo Vittorie Emanuel ll in Naples where among his
professors was Vulcanologist Giuseppe Mercalli. He persued after graduating
from the Liceo in 1897, the same year that his father died. He received his
doctorate from the faculty of medicine at the University of Naples in 1903.

4th phrase: On His medical career, he immediately received his degree. He


joined the staff of the Ospedale Degli Incurabili. He continued to study,
conducting medical research when not performing his duties at the hospital.
He won further recognition for his actions in the aftermath of the eruption of
mount Vesuvius on april 8 1906. Moscati was responsible at Torre Del Greco
Hospital and it is located a few miles from the volcano’s crater.

5th phrase: Moscati remained true to his faith his entire life, taking a vow
chastity and practicing charity in his daily work. He viewed his practice of
medical science as a way of alleviating suffering, not as a way of making
profits, and would retire regularly for prayer. Moscati also Refused to charge
the poor for their treatments and known sometimes send a patient home with
a prescription and a 50 Lira note in an envelope.

6th phrase: Moscati died in the afternoon of April 12, 1927. His body was
initially buried in the cementery of Poggio Reale. Three years later was
exhumed and reinterred in the church of Gesu Nuovo. Today a marble stone
marks his grave.
