ROYAL BELLAGIO

ENGINEERING’S REPORT

SUBMITTED BY:

ENGR. GARRY PONFERRADA CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE D. MANALO

CHEMICAL ENGINEER POLLUTION CONTROL OFFICER
PRC # 0023020
Vicinity Map

Royal Bellagio is currently located at 5010 P Burgos, Makati, 1210 Metro Manila

I. Nature of Project

The project has an estimated land area and population (2005) of 2443
square meter and 18,174 persons (comprising employees and visitors),
respectively.

II. Wastewater Characteristics

Wastewater being treated in the sewage treatment plant is from Royal

Bellagio and Pacifica Bandini. The wastewater generated of the said
establishments are domestic wastewater specifically human wastes which may
compose of organic pollutants / inorganic pollutants / high nutrients which may
extremely affect the body of water and wastewater from restaurants.

III. Treatment Process

Septic tanks with proper functions have capabilities to partially treat the
wastewater coming from the hotel.

Functions of each Septic Tank:

Septic Tank 1: Aerobic Tank 1

Septic Tank 2: Anaerobic Tank 1
Septic Tank 3: Aerobic Tank 2
Septic Tank 4: Anaerobic Tank 2
Septic Tank 5: Aerobic Tank 3

Biological treatments rely on bacteria, nematodes, or other small organisms to break

down organic wastes using normal cellular processes. The goal of biological wastewater
treatment is to create a system in which the results of decomposition are easily collected for
proper disposal. Biological treatment is used worldwide because it’s effective and more
economical than many mechanical or chemical processes.

IV. Capacity of Wastewater Treatment Facility

The capacity of the Wastewater Treatment Facility is 55 cubic meters per

day and was established February 2020.

V. Specification of Equipment and Function

OIL AND GREASE SEPARATOR

Domestic waste shall be consolidated into the main sewer line and will flow
towards the Grease Trap Separator. The grease trap separator is the first collection
tank of the domestic wastes. This tank opts to remove oil and grease that are
present in the wastewater. The overflow of the grease trap separator shall transfer
the wastewater into the first tank of the biological treatment.

BIOLOGICAL NUTRIENTS REMOVAL

The biological treatment of the system consists of five (5) tanks of two (2)
alternate processes required for efficient and normal treatment: aeration and
anaerobic process, respectively. With this process, microorganisms use the
organics in wastewater as food supply and convert them into biological cells or
biomass. The microorganisms involved in wastewater treatment are essentially the
same as those that degrade organic material in natural fresh water systems.

OZONATION
.
Ozonation is done on the fifth tank. The ozonation of wastewater effluents has
several advantages such as an increase in dissolved oxygen, decrease in chemical
oxygen demand, and improvement in aesthetic characteristics due to reduction in
turbidity and color, in which chlorination and UV radiation do not provide.
FILTRATION

Filtration is a process that removes particles and other media of a certain size and
larger from liquids. Removing these particles and debris from a wastewater
system allows the water to be reused within that system

VI. Receiving Body

Discharge or effluent of the treatment plant should pass the quality of the DENR
AO 2016-08 (Water Quality Guidelines and General Effluent Standards of 2016)
parameters with the category of industry under 55/Hotels, motels, resorts,
dormitories and other accommodation services. Table below shows the
requirement parameter of Royal Bellagio Hotel.

The discharge point of Royal Bellagio Hotel’s treated wastewater is the nearest
drainage. In which, drainage is under Class C category (see table VI.2). Table VI.3 shows
the limit of each parameter under its classification.

VII. Environmental Management Plan

In order to effectively treat and safely dispose the wastewater to the

environment, the management of the said project is committed to adopt an
environmental management system for the Sewage Treatment Plant, presented in
the table below.

ACTIVITY SIGNIFICANCE
A. Monitoring Daily monitoring and reporting are required to
verify that treatment process is functioning correctly
and the effluent parameters are being met. Daily
results and activities will be logged as reference on
the efficiency of the system.

Monitoring of effluent quality shall be conducted on

a regular basis by submitting samples to an
accredited laboratory of DENR.
B. Prevention of The operator of the plant shall monitor daily volume
Facility and regularly check water quality and makes
Overloading modification should designed volume is reached or
original water parameters used in the design is
exceeded.
C. Operation and The operator shall ensure that the equipment is
Maintenance functioning properly and maintained regularly.
Maintenance of equipment is vital in the treatment
and capture of pollutants and the proper functioning
of the plant.
D. Solids Handling In order to prevent water problems, all solids such
as grit, scum, paper, rags shall be disposed off
properly and shall be separated prior to entry of
waste water to the treatment plant. Solid waste shall
be handled with a separate handling system.
E. Sludge Handling Regular hauling of digested and desludging of septic
tanks shall be conducted. Only accredited hauler
with own treatment facility shall haul the septic tank
sludge.
F. Record Keeping All activities and results shall log for reference.
VIII. FACILITY COST STATEMENT
TOTAL PROJECT COST:

Scope of Work:

ACTIVITY 1: Conversion of the five (5) Septic Tanks into Aerobic, Contact,
Settling and Holding Tanks.

The process is summarized below:

1. Wastewater will flow towards the first two (2) tanks, which will serve as
the aerobic tanks. For these tanks, venturi meters and necessary pipings will be
provided.
2. The aerated wastewater will then proceed towards the contact, settling and
holding tank, which has a contact time of 1 hour, which is manipulated, again, by
the control panel.
3. The effluent will then be pumped (Brand: Servtech) to the filtration
system.

ACTIVITY 2: Filtration System

This includes the following:

1. Provision of one (3) unit of FRP;.

2. Installation of equipment and wirings;
3. Pipings and installation of necessary valves for the backwash of media;

ACTIVITY 3: Ozonator

1. Provision of one (1) unit of ozonator

2. Installation and pipings (with venturi meter)

ACTIVITY 4: Discharge Permit

The contractor is obliged to:

4.1 Conduct ocular site inspection to gather details of the project; its vicinity,
conditions, data and relevant information about the environment.

4.2 Consolidation of the relevant details, data and information for the
preparation of a textual description of the existing environmental conditions at the
project site
4.3 Preparation of detailed description of the existing waste water treatment
process to include the following:

• Nature and characteristic of waste including its chemical composition

• Total daily volume of discharge of raw waste
• Treatment process and estimated treatment efficiency
• Total daily volume of discharge of finally treated waste of effluent
• Complete specification of the treatment process

4.4 Identification of all possible sources of environmental impacts during the

different stages of work including the rates of discharges if there is any.

4.5 Submission of Discharge Permit (DP) to DENR-EMB-NCR via on-line

system.
