My first time on an aeroplane

Mark
My first time on a plane was last summer, when I went to Italy
with my family. We usually have holidays in the USA, where we
live, so I was really excited about flying. When we got on board,
I found out that my seat was in the middle, between my mum
and dad, which I wasn’t very pleased about. Everything else
about the flight was great, though, including the food.

Jonas
My family went to Australia last year. That was my first flight. At
the airport, I left my passport on a seat, but a really nice lady
saw it and gave it back to me. On the plane, I sat next to the
window because my brother didn’t want to. My dad said meals
are always terrible on planes, so when I tried mine I couldn’t
believe it – it was delicious!

Hassan
We flew to Thailand last year. When we were waiting to get on
the plane, I felt a bit scared, but then we got on and found our
seats, and I started to feel better. And when the plane was in the
air, I loved looking out of the window at the clouds – they were
so beautiful! In fact, the only thing I didn’t like about flying was
the food.

Part 6

Questions 30–34

Read the text and questions below.

For each question, circle the correct letter A, B or C.

The girl who rides motorbikes

12-year-old Beatrice Tianah from Uganda talks about
her hobby – the sport of motocross

My hobby is motocross racing. In a motocross race, you ride a motorbike around

a dirt track. There are lots of jumps to go over, and often it’s difficult to stay on
your motorbike. I started when I was six and now I’m one of the best riders in
my country.

When you’re racing, you need to think about what you’re doing. If you don’t slow
down around corners, you’ll fall. Where you can go really fast is on the straight
parts. For me that’s the best bit – it’s brilliant to feel the wind on your face.
However, people watching races prefer seeing us do jumps.

In my country, it’s unusual for girls to do motocross, so sometimes I’m the only
girl in a race. The boys in the sport all know me, and know that I’m as good as
them, but a few still get angry if I pass them in a race.

Just like in other sports, motocross riders need to eat well. At the beginning, my
mother prepared special meals just for me, but now the whole family has the
same. Everyone feels better because they’re eating more fruit and vegetables.

Because I’m doing well at my sport, I’m in the local newspaper sometimes. My
grandpa keeps all the articles. I don’t read them and I don’t like it much when he
shows them to his friends, but I’m glad I’ll be able to look at the articles when
I’m older.
