III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activities Learner’s Activities
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Greetings everyone! Kindly In the name of the Father…
stand up and let us pray.
2. Energizer
(Students sing)

3. Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent today?
No Ma’am.
Very good! No one is absent
today.
4. Classroom rules
Before we start, let me share
you the rules for us to have a

cooperate with your group or
your individual task.
Third, raise your hand if you
want to answer.
Fourth participate actively and

3.
Motivation Umbrella Ma’am
When its raining, what specific
thing are you using? Sometimes 6 and 8 Ma’am.

Very good! Umbrella.

Can you observe the sides of

umbrella? It has how many
sides?

Look at the picture, where do

you see these signs? Roads Ma’am.

The “STOP” sign has 8 sides and the

arrow sign 7 sides.
There are how many sides on
these street signs?

C. Modeling
Today, our topic is all about
visualizing, naming and
describing polygons with 5 or
more sides.

A polygon is a closed plane

figure made up of several line
segments that are joined
together. The line segments are
called sides of the polygon.
They do not cross each other
and exactly two sides meet at a
common point called the vertex.

A polygon is usually more understood in

terms of sides. Knowing the meaning of
different prefixes will help you remember
the number of sides of polygon has.

Here are the different kinds of polygons

with 5 or more sides.

A pentagon (penta=5) is a polygon

with five sides and five angles.
A hexagon (hexa=6) is a polygon
with six sides and six angles.
A heptagon (hepta=7) is a polygon
with seven sides and seven angles.
An octagon (octa=8) is a polygon
ewith eight sides and eight angles. (Students listen actively.)
A nonagon (nona=9) is a polygon
with nine sides and nine angles.
A decagon (deca=10) is a polygon
with ten sides and ten angles.
An undecagon (undeca=11) is a
polygon with eleven sides and
eleven angles.
A dodecagon (dodeca=12) is a
polygon with twelve sides and
twelve angles.

D. Guided Practice
Peer Activity
Direction: Identify what type of
polygon is shown.

1.
_______gon

2.
_______gon 1. Hexagon
2. Octagon
3. 3. Decagon
_______gon 4. Heptagon
5. Pentagon

5.

How did you find the activity?

How did you answer it? The activity is somewhat confusing.
By looking at the number of sides.
Is it easy for you to visualize,
name and describe polygons? Seems confusing but through
remembering and knowing the prefixes
helps to remember the number of sides
of polygon has.
Are polygons important in our
daily life? Why? Yes, it makes our life easier and better.
It also helps in beautifying the
surroundings.
E. Independent Practice
Directions: Match the name of
polygon in column A with the
definition in column B. Write the
letter of your answer before
each number.

Column A Column B

______ 1. decagon A. polygon having 6

Sides and 6 angles
______ 2. heptagon B. polygon having 8 1. E.
Sides and 8 angles 2. D.
______ 3. pentagon C. polygon having 5 3. C.
Sides and 5 angles 4. B.
______ 4. octagon D. polygon having 7 5. A.
Sides and 7 angles
______ 5. hexagon E. polygon having 10
Sides and 10 angles

F. Generalization
How can you name polygons?
We name polygons through knowing
the meaning of prefixes that helps to
remember the number of sides of
polygon has.

How can you visualize and

describe polygons? We visualize and describe polygons
through counting the number of its
sides and angles.
