Abstract
A registered nurse (RN) is essential in the medical environment today. Nursing is a common
occupation that many people choose to study. To become a nurse, one must at a minimum earn
an associate's degree or bachelor's degree in nursing. Then they must complete the nursing
program and take their NCLEX exam to become certified. In terms of employment, there are
currently 12,796 active RNs working in the state of Minnesota as well as 8,323 job openings
available as of 2022. Their average salary per year is approximately $84,030. Salary can increase
if a registered nurse decides to further their education by obtaining a higher degree in a more
specialized field. Some common occupations that registered nurses might choose to specialize in
are nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, or becoming a dean of nursing. Nurses are needed all
over the world, but some common employers include Mayo Clinic, nursing homes, and schools.
By obtaining a nursing degree, one can go in many different directions to maximize career
opportunities.
