Condoms

Purchasing some things such as condoms could be challenging because of the societal

perception about them. For example, some people think that it is immoral to buy condoms.

Others might consider it responsible and concerned for one’s healthy sexual life. My experience

when purchasing condoms was not as pleasing as I expected. When I went to purchase the

condoms, I was somewhat terrified. I did not know what other shoppers or the cashier would

think of me, especially because I am a young female. Most of the time, it is men who purchase

condoms; hence, it was awkward for me to buy them. While at the store, I did not know which

one to pick, which made it more uncomfortable. A male shopper who passed by the condoms

shelf gave me a strange stare as I stood there tensed.

Also, a mother looking for a drug for her young kid seemed surprised after seeing me at

the condoms shelf. At one moment, the attendant came to me and helped me out. I was uneasy; I

told her I was not conversant with the brands. Luckily, I made the purchase and left. I think I will

be confident the next time I want to purchase condoms. The exercise helped me familiarize

myself with some of the brands/types. The core reason people find it difficult to go into a store to

buy condoms is the uncertainty of how they will be perceived. Also, others are afraid that they

will be judged as being immoral. Finally, some are young and buy condoms secretly for fear of

being caught by their parents or guardians.
