As summer is coming to an end, a new school year is approaching. River is getting ready for the academics of the upcoming year as well as athletics. River High School Cross-Country, Football, Golf, and Volleyball are ready to start their year. Our teams will miss last years seniors as we welcome new talent from the class of 2015. Cross-country looks like it will be an incredible year for the girls. Head Coach Stephens said, I have pretty high expectations. Last year, the team was runner up at the OVAC and missed the district tournament by only one point. This season can

Team is here. Head coach Mike Flannery stated, As a coach, your expectations are always high. With a new year of football, River is looking forward to a promising season. Flannery said, I feel I have one of the best quarterbacks in the valley. Regarding this years practice, Flannery commented, Right now I feel we are way ahead of where we have been We are way ahead of schedule. Flannery is expecting his entire team, including starters and backups, to be leaders. The River Football Team would like to welcome back Coach Tim Fry who took two years off from coaching River Football. On August 26th, at Fort Frye, the River Pilots Football Team will take to the field. When they run out onto the field, some will be playing their last football season for River while others will be stepping out onto the varsity field for the first time. This will be the start of a great year for football at River. The head golf coach, Bob Cain, was inducted into the Ohio High School Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame after the conclusion of last years season. Cain said, In team golf, you need four. We have three. We need to get a fourth. There [are] jobs available at the River High Golf Team. Since the interview, the team got a fourth player, Ford Cisler. However, high school golf plays six on the varsity team. Rivers golf team is still looking for more golfers. Returning golfers from last years team are Austin Curtis, Aaron Goddard, and Jason Miller. Matt Marconi is out with an injury. Cain added, [Aaron] shot his lifetime low in the sectional tournament which is definitely encouragingAs far as Austin, we expect him to be the leader of the team. Regarding last years seniors, Cain said, Any time you lose three seniors that get full ride athletic scholarships to college it will show. Jim Turner, the head volleyball coach, stated [My goal is] to be competitive. He believes that this years group is young, but promising. Turner is excited to have two returning District 12 Honorees. He believes that the entire team will be competing for playing time on the varsity level. This years volleyball seniors are Brittany Conners, Lindsay Goddard, Maggie Morrow, Stephanie Murdock, Torey Potts, Anna Rufener, and Taylor Sterns. Juniors include Alanna Smith, Dakota Earley, Brittany Harrigan, Hannah Jones, Courtney Prout, Mikayla Roberts, Annie Turner, and Leslie Young. Turner said, There is a very good group of freshmen which includes Amanda Bennett, Harley Cisler, Monica Curtis, Rachelle Ice, Mackenzie Marshall, Mikayla Newman, Devyn Potts, Caitlin Ritchie, Dicey Stewart, Katie Thomas, and Mackenzie Wade. River is looking forward to a new year of school. Some people will be the same, some missed, and others will be new. Sports will start with the fall season. We will strive for wins, but if a loss comes our way we will learn from the mistakes to become better because We are River.

only be better due to the fact that the entire team is back again for this year. Laken Ramsay has advanced to Regionals the past two years as an individual runner. Coach Stephens expects the seniors, Emily Dierkes and Randa Imhoff to be leaders for the girls team and Brandon Price, a leader for the boys. For the boys cross country team, Coach Stephens expects a lot out of senior Brandon Price. Chase Young and Travis Goddard are on the team, but more runners are needed for a boys team. Another year for the River Football

Fall sports are back and Beallsvilles expected to have an exciting season. Its a new season for Big Blues football team and excitement is in the air. Hopefully, having an older, more experienced team will bring success to the new season. Lost through graduation were Jarrod Kinney, Nathan Kinney, Taylor Myers and Logan Groves. In order to be a good team, we have to be more physical on defense, said Head Coach Dave Caldwell. The boys will start their season off with home field advantage against Conotton Valley Aug. 26. The Lady Devils volleyball team is ready to leave their mark! The team consists of 11 players and five returning lettermen. Coach Patrick Wells believes the girls are getting better each day and all have

Beallsville Sports

experience with each other. The girls lost Jessica Campbell to graduation. The ladies first game will be Aug. 31 at Bridgeport. Beallsvilles golf team is small in numbers but big in spirit this year. The team has senior Justin Dietrich and sophomore John Dietrich, both two-year lettermen. And freshmen Jeremy Swisher and Ryan Wells will give Beallsville just enough for a team. This will be a rebuilding year with only two returning lettermen, said Coach Pat Marcum. Were glad to have a team and pleased with the progress the freshmen are showing. It will be a tough year and we will be expecting a lot from our lettermen. Lost to graduation were four seniors, Jacob Fraley, Chris Clary, Wesley Groves and Daniel Blair, who will be continuing his golf career at Muskingum College.

Good Luck, Blue Devils! Enjoy the Season!
