21" National Conference and AGM 2018, 7-8 December, 2018 103. COMPARISON OF NUTRITIONAL QUALITY OF STRIPED CATFISH, PANGASIANODON HYPOPHTHALMUS (SAUV AGE, 1878), CULTURED IN BANGLADESH AND VIETNAM ‘at Jahan Punom, Md Mostavi Enan Eshik, Mst. Khadiza Begum 1 Lal Saha', Mohammad Shamsur Rahman* Department of Fisheries, University of Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh "Department of Botany, University of Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh ‘Email: shamsur@du.ac.bd Mst. Avira Begum, Ni Pangasianodon hypophthalmus is 2 major aquaculture commodity in Bangladesh. It is well accepted by a wide range of population and so, it has been a good source of protein in the diet of Bangladeshi people. The objectives of this study were to assess fillet quality and to make comparison of proximate composition and fatty acid profile of edible portion (muscles) of P. Aypophihalmus cultured in Bangladesh with Vietnamese Pangasius marketed in Italy from the study of Orban et al. (2008). The proximate composition and fatty acid profile were determined by following the established method of AOAC and Gas Chromatograph (GC), respectively. The live fish samples exhibited the highest quality white color fillets at a great percentage (in farm-live samples 50% and in market-live samples 66.67%) ‘Muscles of the Bangladeshi cultured fish were characterized by 78.08 + 0.36 % moisture, 1.05 * 0.04 % ash, 13.04 + 0.21 % protein, 6,99 + 0.36 % lipid whereas 83.57 + 2.30 % moisture, 1.25 + 0.19 % ash, 13.60 + 1.34 % protein and 1,84 + 0.92 % lipid were observed in Vietnamese striped catfish as published by Orban ct al. (2008). Result exhibited remarkable difference in the lipid contents and the amount was almost four times higher in Bangladeshi cultured one. in case of estimated fatty acid comparison, the unsaturated fatty acid both monounsaturated (MUFA) and polyunsaturated (PUPA) were obse-ved higher in Bangladeshi cultured one (MUFA- 41.04 + 1.24% & PUFA- 19.98 + 2.89 %) than the Vietnamese one (MUFA- 34.68 1.73 % & PUFA- 15.55 + 2.92 %). On the other hand, the published result exhibited higher amount of saturated fatty acid content in Vietnamese sutchi catfish (44.77 + 2.77 %) than our estimated result (38,975 + 2.16 %) of Bangladeshi striped catfish. Findings of the nutritional composition indicate that Pangas fish may play a major role to fulfill the nutritional demand of the people of Bangladesh 104. s J]ORPHO-MOLECULAR IDENTIFICATION OF CORAL REEF ASSOCIATED APPERS AND GROUPERS (PERCIFORMES: EPINEPHELIDAE) FROM SAINT MARTIN’S ISLAND, BANGLADESH Neloy Sarkar', Najmun Nahar’, Amit Kumer Neogi?, A.H.M. Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, ‘Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh; *Email: ahsan.sau@gmail.com Coral reef fish have tremendous ecological values and vital for sustaining a healthy coral reef ecosystem. Species like grouper and snapper are prized by recreational anglers and support an important commercial fishery. Snappers and groupers are a species-rich assemblage of marine reef fishes whose classification has undergone many changes across various taxonomic levels. The present study is an attempt to the identification and diversity assessment of the snappers (Perciformes: Lutjanidae) and grouper (Perciformes: Serranidac) through morphological and molecular approaches. total of 30 fish specimens were collected from Saint Martin's Island, Bangladesh ftom April 2017 to October 2018. Among the specimens, eight species of snappers viz. Luijanus luijanus, L, lemniscatus, L. johnii, L madras, L. rivulatus, 1. fulvus, L. lunulatus and L. eryhtropterus have been recorded under the same gemus Laujanus and four species of groupers viz. Cephalopholis formosa, C. boenak, Epinephelus erythrurus and 106
