1 Introduction

1. Introduction

1.1 Product Overview


1.1.1 Overview ····························································································
Noblus is a shared service diagnostic scanner with basic functions such as Doppler
and ColorFlow Mapping, and allows the connection of convex, linear, and electronic
sector type probes. In addition, High-definition dTHI (HdTHI) mode (a unique
technology developed by Hitachi) is also provided as a standard function. This mode
provides a clear image by dramatically reducing artifacts, such as multiple echoes,
and improving penetration, spatial resolution, and contrast resolution.
An advanced imaging compound function, adaptive imaging (HI REZ+) function,
high-definition color mode, trapezoidal display function, oblique B-mode image
function, wide view (panorama display), 3D display, contrast agent supporting
function, real-time Doppler trace, omni-directional M mode, cine memory, patient
data management function, real-time tissue elastography function, real-time
archiving function, etc. are available on Noblus.
In addition, the system is easy to use because of its ergonomic design and compact
15-inch LCD monitor, based on a display format developed with HI VISION Preirus
for maximum usability. An on-board battery allows examinations to be performed
even when an external power source is not available, and the main unit can be
moved without turning the power off.
In addition, the cart and probe extension unit are connected, allowing the
simultaneous connection of multiple probes and easy probe switching.

1.1.2 Features ·····························································································


(1) True Digital Architecture
Due to beamformer which is decisively concerned to the image quality and all
image processing are digitalized, high spatial resolution, wide dynamic range
and high contrast resolution are realized.
Ultrasound transmit circuit is improved by high performance transmit amplifier,
and ultrasound receiving circuit is improved by high performance
pre-amplifier.
Frame rate is improved much more faster comparing with conventional
system.
High quality image is digital image processing application.
This architecture that is achieved high quality image is good for new
generation.

(2) Reduction of startup time and quick response


Startup time has been reduced to enable quick and easy operation.
Mode changing, image condition settings, probe changing and application
selection can be performed quickly so that operator can pay attention to the
patients.

(3) Usable for wide field of application


Linear, convex and phased array scan type probe are usable. It is possible to
cover from abdominal and obstetric to cardiovascular fields.

(4) 15-inch digital LCD Monitor


It is adopted 15-inch digital LCD Monitor.
LCD Monitor provides high quality image.

(5) High-definition screen-displayed format


The resolution of the monitor is increased and the layout of the screen is
displayed to the high-definition. The inspection efficiency is improved by
additional information and the operation assistance on the screen.
 Design
The screen design which looks big ultrasound image.
 Tab menus
It is easy to use the tab menus to switch applications, perform
measurements, activate annotations. Because it is positioned out of
diagnosis area.
 Brightness Setting
It is adjustable character and background brightness level on the screen
depends on setting condition.
 Direct operation via touch panel
The 15-inch LCD monitor with touch panel allows users to perform
operations by using the buttons that appear on the monitor, allowing for
direct operations with minimal change in a user's line of sight.

(6) Ergonomic design


 Design
Noblus adopts a design based on ergonomics and with importance placed
on ease of use for the operator.
Assuming various situations, the main unit is designed for use both in the
vertical and horizontal positions.
The main unit can save space when installed in the vertical position, and
it can be used like a laptop PC by being placed in the horizontal position.
In addition, a shoulder belt is provided to make it easy to carry the main
unit.
Furthermore, we made the LCD monitor hinge rotatable so that the
direction of the LCD monitor can be changed freely.

 Easily operable keyboard


As key arrangement is taken in consideration of frequency of use and
operational has improved. The keyboard uses hard keys, which improves
key responsiveness and visibility.
 Compact probe connector
The size of the probe connector has been reduced to match the size of
the main unit. This improves the ease of insertion and removal of probes,
as well as the portability of the unit.
 Cart
The cart for the main unit provides space for a printer and other
equipment, and allows the unit to be operated while mounted on the cart.
In addition, friction with surfaces has been reduced, and five swivel
wheels employed on the cart provide an excellent mobility.
This allows the cart to be used easily in hospitals and tight spaces.
 On-board battery
An on-board battery allows examinations to be performed even when an
external power source is not available, and the main unit can be moved
without turning the power off.

(7) User interface


Workflow is improved because of new GUI.
It is a few procedures for many functions to use screen buttons.

(8) Online Manual


It is applicable to browse instruction manual on your Noblus.

(9) Various B-mode scan


 HI Com function
Compound function provides high spatial resolution, wide dynamic range
and high contrast resolution.
 Trapezoidal display function
Trapezoidal display is applicable for linear probe.
It is improved diagnosis area for linear probe.
 Oblique B-mode image function
This function enables you to use oblique function not only CFI/CFA mode
but B mode.

(10) High quality image technique


 High-definition dynamic tissue harmonic imaging(HdTHI)Mode
High-definition dynamic tissue harmonic imaging (Hitachi unique
technology) provide “Clear image” to reduce artifact such as vibration
echo, and to improve spatial resolution and contrast resolution.

 Adaptive Imaging (HI REZ)


Adaptive imaging is the technique to generate optimum image with
changing filter characteristic depending on input signal.
This technique, which installed this ultrasound diagnostic scanner,
reduces speckle noise on B-mode images and provides uniformly and
high contrast images.
 Fine Flow function
It is the function to display high frame rate and fine high-definition color
doppler image.
It is possible to display small vessel less blooming than original system.

(11) Automatic image optimization (HI Support)


It is the function to adjust TGC and B mode gain, base line, PRF and Doppler
gain etc. so that it may become the optimal image automatically, and leads to
shortening of inspection time.

(12) Real time Doppler measurement function


Automatic tracing function and measuring function in Doppler-mode have
been allowed to apply only to frozen images, but with this function it is possible
to perform it to real time images which contributes to shorten the time for
examination.
It is displayed position of Doppler waveform and Vp, Vd values of Doppler
waveform in real time.
Any past measurement result and measurement location mark can indicate to
operate cine memory frame review after Freeze.

(13) Filing function


 Examination data management
Examination data (images measurement results and other data) can
manage and operate together, so it is easy to refer data before an
examination and after an examination.
 Multiple functions to save data
No image degradation because of digital image recording.
This filing function can record still images and multi images on not only
internal storage but also USB memory and USB HDD.
 Easy-to-use filing function
In the Filing window, you can view examination data.
It is consideration for easy-to-use in the routine examination by filtering
Patient ID or Patient name or keyword search.
Thumbnail view provides easy access to destination image.
Review images can display 1/4/9/16 screen depend on choosing images.
 Patient data management
You can select the patient in the list view who had examination once.

(14) Omni-Directional M mode (ODM) function


Usually the normal M-mode image is controlled by the beam direction.
With this function, it is possible to display the M-mode image on an optional
line on the B-mode image, so it enables to perform more accurate left ventricle
volume measurement.

(15) Real-time Tissue Elastography


This function can visualize the amount of strain in tissue (hardness of tissue)
during compression and retraction.

(16) Real-time archiving function


This function makes spot recordings of B-mode images and CFM mode images
as digital movie files in real time. It is used for clip analysis of cardiovascular
regions.

(17) Contrast harmonic imaging function


With this function enabling to produce images further effectively from signal
coming out of the contrast agent it is possible to improve to diagnose the
existence of tumor with ease.

(18) DICOM function


This software can transfer ultrasound images and measurement reports to a
storage server.
It has a Storage Commitment function. This software can output and read
ultrasound images in DICOM file format.
This software has a function to obtain WorkLists from the MWM server.
It has a function to send examination start and completion notifications for
ultrasound images to the MPPS server.
And it can be sent Ultrasound images to grayscale or color DICOM printers.

(19) 4D function
3D ultrasound images can be viewed in almost real-time. As the scanning part
of the probe swings automatically in a fan-like fashion, it sends signals to the
Three-dimensional Display software, which rapidly builds a 3D image based on
the probe’s signal.

(20) STIC function


Multiple 3D images representing a single heartbeat can be displayed by
automatically swinging the scanning part of the probe in a fan-like fashion and
estimating the cardiac cycle from the obtained images.

(21) Advanced Measurement function


 IMT measurement
IMT (Intima-Media Thickness) measurement is enabled by detecting the
position of intima and adventitia of carotid artery.

(22) Maintenance improvements


 LED for maintenance
Errors in the unit are now displayed by LED, for improved service
efficiency. In addition,
 Remote maintenance functions
Failure information and other support can be provided by linking
ultrasound scanners to data center servers via special software and
monitoring the state of ultrasound scanners regularly.

(23) Wireless LAN function


This function enables wireless network connections, and DICOM transmission
using Wireless LAN is also possible.

(24) Probe extension unit


Connecting the probe extension unit to the cart allows multiple probes to be
connected simultaneously and makes probe switching easier. In addition, two
compact connectors and one standard connector can also be installed,
allowing the continued use of current probes.

1.3 Environmental Requirements


Observe the following environmental conditions for safe and correct operation of the
equipment.

(1) Environmental conditions in operation


 Ambient temperature : +10°C ~ +35°C
 Relative humidity : 30 ~ 85% (subject to no condensation)
 Atmospheric pressure : 700 ~ 1060hPa

(2) Daily storage conditions


 Ambient temperature : -10°C ~ +40°C
 Relative humidity : 10 ~ 90% (subject to no condensation)
 Atmospheric pressure : 700 ~ 1060hPa

(3) Environmental conditions for transportation (in packing)


 Ambient temperature : -10°C ~ +60°C
 Relative humidity : 10 ~ 95% (subject to no condensation)
 Atmospheric pressure : 500 ~ 1060hPa

2. Safety

2.1 Classification of Equipment


Classification of this ultrasound scanner by IEC60601-1 and UL2601-1 is as follows:
 Classification by type of protection against electric shock: Class I equipment
 Classification by grade of protection against electric shock: Type B and BF
equipment
(General requirements of medical equipment safety by IEC and UL)

2.2 Cautions in Operating Equipment


(1) For maintenance inspection, refer to Chapter 8 Maintenance and Checkup
of the Noblus Instruction Manual -Preparation- (Q1E-EA1388).

(2) In moving the equipment, refer to Chapter 7 Moving and Transporting of


the Noblus Instruction Manual -Preparation- (Q1E-EA1388).

(3) For starting up and shutting down the system, refer to Chapter 5 Operation
Procedures of the Noblus Instruction Manual -Preparation- (Q1E-EA1388) .

2.3 Cautions in Maintaining Equipment


(1) When remove the cover and install PCB or connector, be sure to turn off the
equipment using ON/STANDBY key and remove the battery before entering
into the work.

(2) In case of Transportation of equipment, installation, maintenance, read the


Service stuff precaution of Technical Guide -Installation- (L2E-EA0450) and
Chapter 7 Moving and Transporting of the Noblus Instruction Manual
-Preparation- (Q1E-EA1388) beforehand.

(3) An external USB-DVD drive is needed for working with CD. Prepare in
advance and connect to USB connector of equipment For more information,
refer to Appendix 3 Handling an external USB-DVD drive of Technical
Guide -Installation- (L2E-EA0450).

(4) When transporting the battery itself, Make sure to storage specified
packaging. It can cause a short or a damage of metal terminal. For how to
remove the battery, refer to Appendix 2 Removing the battery of Technical
Guide -Installation- (L2E-EA0450).

(5) Please do not dispose of the battery as general household waste. It can cause
fire and smoke which induced by destruction in garbage collection car, etc. The
old battery should be disposed according to the local government rule.

3.2.1 Contents of backup data ·····································································
The contents of the user setting data saved by the copy of Backup Data are shown
below.

When upgrading the software version, the following user setting data is
restored to the factory default settings. Be sure to backup your data
before upgrading the software.

3.2.2 Saving backup data ············································································


If backup data is saved periodically, when user setting information has disappeared,
it can be restored by reading backup data.

(1) Select "Backup data" in "Setup" of "Main Menu".

(2) Select "Save" in "Backup Data".

(3) When the message as shown in the figure below appears, connect a USB
Memory, and then from the Select list, select Volume Label of USB memory.
Press the OK button to start saving the backup data.
After a while, the message The save of backup data was completed is
displayed in the dialog. Press the OK button to return to the Data backup
dialog.
The backup data is created in the USB memory with a folder named as
USBackUpData_yyyymmddhhmmss (yyyymmddhhmmss: date and time
when the backup data is saved).
Selecting the Save Network Settings check box saves the network settings,
which have been set by selecting the tab menu, Setup, and then System.

It is possible to use a USB HDD to back up a data. If a USB HDD is connected to


the system, the Drive: Select display the volume name of the USB HDD.

3.2.3 Loading backup data ···········································································

This operation deletes the backup data saved in the system.

(1) Select "Data Backup" in "Setup" of "Tab Menu".

(2) Select "Load" in "Data backup".

(3) The following message appears. If the backup data is to be loaded, select the
"Yes" button.

(4) When the message as shown in the figure below appears, connect the USB
memory. From the Select list, select Volume Label of USB memory, and then
click the Read button.
When the backup data stored in the disk is displayed in a list, select the backup
data to be loaded. If the network settings are saved, in the Network Settings
column, the appropriate check box is selected. To load the data without
loading its network settings, clear the check box.
Press the OK button to start loading the backup data.

It is possible to use a USB HDD to back up a data. If a USB HDD, USB HDD is
connected to the system, the Drive: Select display the volume name of the USB
HDD.

(5) When the message as shown in the figure below appears, please click the OK
button after confirming the message.

Please surely plug AC adapter when the backup data is loaded.


When backup data is loaded during software version upgrade, if AC
adapter Is not plugged, the equipment may break down cause of
shutdown while it is applied to the equipment.

(6) After a while, when the message as shown in the figure below appears, click
the OK button. The equipment restarts.
When backup data of different version from equipment is read, starting may
take time. Please do not turn off the power until equipment starts.

The time required for equipment startup might slightly vary depending
on the backup data.
When backup data is loaded during software version upgrade, it takes
from 10 to 30 minutes for the equipment to start up.

4. Maintenance

When using the main unit, carry out the checkup before use, maintenance after use,
periodical checkup and cleaning as follows.

4.1 Check before use


Daily Weekly Monthly Other

Check up the following before turning on the power switch.

(1) Check to see if the power cable cover is damaged or worn out. If the cable is
used as been damaged, an electric shock may happen.

(2) Check to see if the probe cable cover is damaged or worn out, and also if the
contact surface of the probe is scratched or damaged. If it is used as been
damaged, an electric shock may happen.

(3) Swivel or tilt the monitor and confirm that it can move smoothly and correctly,
and that there is no unusual sound.

(4) Make sure that an archival device (such as a printer) that is not specified by
Hitachi Medical Corporation is not connected. If any abnormality is found,
contact our service support or our authorized dealer.

(5) Check the LCD panel for damage.


If the LCD panel is damaged, do not touch it directly by hand.
If you touch it, wash your hands well. In case spilled out liquid crystal gets into
your eyes or mouth, immediately wash your eyes or mouth, and see a doctor.

(6) Check to see if the ECG cable cover is damaged or worn off, if the cable is
used as been damaged, an electric shock may happen.

4.2 Checkup while using the scanner unit

Check up the following after turning on the power switch.

(1) Check to see if any abnormal sound or smell is generated or not. If any
abnormality is found, immediately turn off the power and disconnect the
power cable from the power outlet. Then, contact our service support or our
authorized dealer.

(2) Check the fans on the top of the rear side of the main unit, on the back side
of the main unit, and on the left side of the keyboard panel, both visually and
aurally, to make sure they are operating correctly. If they are not operating
correctly, contact our service support or our authorized dealer.

(3) Make sure that date and time are correctly displayed on the upper right and
the lower right on the monitor. If date and time are not correct, the backup
battery for time display in the scanner unit may have been expired. In such
case, contact our service support or our authorized dealer. The replaced old
battery should be disposed according to the local government rule.

4.3 Periodical checkup

Carry out the following checkup every month.


 If any abnormality is found on the probe connector and connector or not.
 If any abnormality is found on the power cable and other cables or not.
 If any abnormality is found on the battery or not.
 If any abnormality is found on the keyboard panel and keyboard or not.
 If the wheel lock pedals and the wheel release pedals of the cart (optional)
operate correctly.
If any abnormality is found or it malfunctions, stop operation of the main unit, turn
off the power and disconnect the power cable from the power outlet, then contact
our service support or our authorized dealer.
For the detail periodical checkup, consult with our service support or our authorized
dealer.

4.4 Backup of data


4.4.1 Backup of system setting data ····························································
Daily Weekly Monthly Other

Should the internal storage incorporated on this system be damaged, the registered
application data will be lost. Backing up the system setting data at least once a
month is suggested.
Prepare one backup media for piece of equipment.
Please read the backup data only with the equipment that preserves the backup
data.
When the backup data of a different equipment is read, it causes the malfunction.
For details, see the subsection Data Backup in the chapter Tab menus in the separate
INSTRUCTION MANUAL Noblus Operation.

4.4.2 Backup of examination data ································································

Should the internal storage incorporated on this system be damaged, the registered
examination data will be lost. Backing up the examination data at least once a month
is suggested.
You can back up the examination data from Filing window with Copy or Convert.
For notes on using data, see the subsection Overview in the chapter Filing Function
in the separate INSTRUCTION MANUAL Noblus Operation.
For details of backup, see the section Filing window in the chapter Filing Function in
the separate INSTRUCTION MANUAL Noblus Operation.

4.4.3 Backup of patient information ·····························································

Should the internal storage incorporated on this system be damaged, the registered
patient information data will be lost. Backing up the patient information data at least
once a month is suggested.
Prepare one backup media for piece of equipment.
Please read the backup data only with the equipment that preserves the backup
data.
When the backup data of different equipment is read, it may cause the mistake of
using different patient information.

4.8 Cleaning of main unit


4.8.1 Cleaning of probe ················································································

 After use of the main unit, completely wipe off jelly on the probe with tissue
paper or soft cloth. If the probe would be left with jelly on it, it will cause color
change or deterioration of the probe function.
 Do not use hard paper or cloth to wipe the probe, otherwise the acoustic lens
on the surface of the probe may be scraped, causing electric shock.
 Keep probe in the probe holder or case for careful storage. Be careful not to
give any shock to the probe or drop it.
 After use of the probe, it must be disinfected. For disinfection and sterilization
of the probe, read the instructions supplied with each probe.

4.8.2 Cleaning of keyboard panel ·································································

 After using the main unit, turn off the power to the main unit, and remove the
AC adapter and battery. Then, completely wipe off any jelly adhering to the
keyboard panel. If it is left as stuck, it will cause color change or deterioration
of the panel.
 When cleaning the keyboard panel, clean it with the cloth moistened with
neutral detergent and then wipe it with dry cloth.
 The alcohol use is not recommended because the alcohol use has the
possibility of causing deterioration in the character of the operation panel and
damage of the surface of the operation panel. However, when unavoidably
using the alcohol, soak the cutting cotton or gauze with the alcohol and
squeeze hard, and then wipe it lightly. Additionally, do not use the alcohol other

than the following.


<Alcohol that can be used>
 Ethyl alcohol purity 80vol% or less
 Isopropyl alcohol purity 80vol% or less
 If the alcohol is used frequently or keyboard panel is wiped down with the
alcohol strongly, deterioration in the character of the operation panel and
damage of the surface of the operation panel are caused.

When cleaning the keyboard panel, be careful not to slop liquid over the
keyboard and main unit.

4.8.3 Cleaning the system cabinet (main unit, battery, and a cart) ··············

 Before cleaning the system cabinet, turn off the power to the main unit, and
remove the AC adapter and battery.
 Clean the cabinet with the cloth moistened with neutral detergent and then
wipe it with dry cloth.

Never use organic solvent such as thinner.


Take care not to dispose the main unit directly to liquid such as detergent. When
cleaning the main unit, be careful not to slop liquid inside the main unit, over the
probe connector or the keyboard panel.

4.8.4 Cleaning LCD monitor ·········································································

 Before cleaning the LCD monitor, turn off the power to the main unit, and
remove the AC adapter and battery.
 Clean the surface of the LCD monitor with the soft cloth. Lightly wipe off
difficult-to-remove dirt using a soft cloth dampened with a neutral detergent or
alcohol. Additionally, do not use the alcohol other than the following.
<Alcohol that can be used>
 Ethyl alcohol purity 80vol% or less
 Isopropyl alcohol purity 80vol% or less
 Clean the top and side covers of the monitor with cloth moistened with neutral
detergent and then wipe them with dry cloth.

 Take care not to dispose the main unit directly to liquid such as detergent.
 Do not use glass cleaner of hydrocarbon compound.

4.8.5 Cleaning of black & white digital printer ··············································

 Before cleaning the black & white digital printer, turn off the power to the main
unit, and remove the AC adapter.
 Clean the surface of the black & white digital printer with dry, soft cloth.
 Clean the printer head by flowing the cleaning sheet specified by the printer
manufacturer on the printer head. For details, refer to the instruction manual
of the black & white digital printer.

4.8.6 Cleaning of the trackball ·····································································

 Before cleaning the trackball, turn off the power to the main unit, and remove
the AC adapter and battery.
 Do not use wet cloth or detergent. If it gets into the trackball unit, it may cause
damage.
 Turn the grips on the trackball in the direction indicated by the ► mark to
remove the ring, dust ring, and the ball.
 If debris or dust accumulates on the ball, ring, dust ring, housing, roller, shaft,
or other parts, clean the affected parts with a soft, dry cloth or cotton swab.
