OBJECTIVE:
1. To verify experimentally that the impedance Z of a series circuit
is given by the equation
Z= (R2+X2)
2. To measure the phase angle ‘θ’ between the voltage V and the
current I
3. To verify experimentally that following expression hold true for the
RL circuit.

4. V= VR + j VL… (Vector sum).

V= (VR2 +VL2) (Magnitude).

VR= Vcosθ (Vector Sum).

VL= Vsinθ (Vector sum).

EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED:

• Inductor,
• Functional Generator,
• Ammeter,
• Voltmeter,
• A Resistor.

3
PROCEDURE:

• Open the software “Multi Sim”.

• Create a circuit in that software.
• Insert the components of circuit such as inductor, functional
generator, ammeter, voltmeter, and a resistor.
• Place the components on the correct place as shown in figure in
manual. Join the components using wires from end of one
component to start of other components.
FORZ= (R2+ X2):

1. Use function genertor of 50Hz sinusoidal AC waveform generator.

is a 390Ohm Resistor. is a 15mH inductor.
2. Power on. Adjust the output of the AC supply until the merter
measures 15mA (0.015A). Measure the rms voltage applied to
and and record in observation table. Also measure the rms value
total voltage supplied VS.
3. Compute and record XL and Z. (XL = VL/I; Z + VS/I) Ohm. Substitute
the value of R and computed value of XLin the equation Z= (R2 + X2).
Find Z and record in table.
4. Confirm the measured value of by computation. (That is by using
I=VR/R).
FORV= (VR2+VL2):

1. Now using the same arrangement connect the circuit to an input

voltage of 6.3rms, 60Hz.
2. Now with the help of voltmeter measure the respective values of
voltage at resistor and inductor.
3. Now verify that V (applied) = (VR2 +VL2).

RESULT:
1. Verified experimentally that the impedance Z of a series RL circuit
is given by the equation Z=(R^2+X^2)
2. Phase angle between V and I is 89.14.
3. Verified experimentally that following expression hold true for the
RL circuit.
V= VR + j VL… (Vector sum).

V= (VR2 +VL2) (Magnitude).

VR= Vcosθ (Vector Sum).

VL= Vsinθ (Vector sum).
