With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcome:

- Elucidate the nature of language and linguistics through group discussion and
analysis.

The activity consists of:

Step 1:

- Go to the Learning Environment and check the Course Contents and Bibliographic
References for Unit 1.

Step 2:

- Based on the first documents, answer the following questions and share them
in the forum, you have to give meaningful feedback to your classmates:

What is Linguistics?

What is the relation between Linguistics with the Sociolinguistics study object?

How does language or the use of the “meaning of words” become a tool of Social and
Political power?

Why is it important to carry out Socio - linguistics studies?

Step 3: In a short video you have to explain what a dialect is and give one example
according to the Colombian context.

Check the following recommendations for recording your video:


-You must show your face answering the question and giving an example.
-The video should last no more than 3 minutes.
- You must check that the link of your video works and it is public.

Step 4: In this step, the group has to design an Online Magazine, this is a
collaborative activity. To do this, you have to collect the provided questions and the
group’s participation from step 2. The online magazine is a compilation of the
group´s contributions. Also, add the links to the videos of each student of Step 3.

The magazine will have the following structure:

- A tittle
- A short introduction
- Group´s participation and interaction Step 2
- Links to the videos Step 3
- Conclusions
- References

Take in to account these recommendations:

- To create the Online Magazine the group can use the tool which considers the
best for designing it. You can use tools like Flipsnack, Yumpu, Canva, Amaze,
etc.
- This a teamwork, therefore, everyone should help with the creation of the
magazine. If you are using WhatsApp or Skype to communicate with your group,
you must post evidence of such in the forum.
- The magazine must be creative and well designed.

Step 5: Delivery

- Just one member of the group sends to the Evaluation environment a PDF file
with screenshots as pieces of evidence of each student’s participation in the
designing of the magazine and the link to the group’s Online Magazine.

For the development of the activity consider that:

In the Initial Information Environment, you must:

- Check the Course Agenda to organize your time.


- Check the Course News for important information.
- Verify the date of the First Web Conference so that you can plan your
participation accordingly.
- Verify your tutors’ synchronous attention by Skype.

In the Learning Environment, you must:

- Check the Course Contents and Bibliographic References for Unit 1.


- Go to the discussion forum for the task and actively participate with your
collaborative group.
- Give feedback to your e-mates if necessary.

In the Evaluation Environment, you must:

- Upload a PDF file with the task’s individual and group evidence. Identify your
file as follows: 518017 - Task 2 - Group X.pdf

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to Submit

For Collaborative evidence, consider the following:

• All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of the activity.
• In each group a single member will be chosen to submit the requested product in
the environment indicated by the teacher.
• Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets all
the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.
• Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.

In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
