CITIC Seram Energy Ltd API Gravity Measurement

1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Crude Oil is differentiating based on API Gravity. The higher the API gravity of
crude oil, the lighter the crude is. Hydrometer is use to measure the API Gravity of a
crude oil.

2.0 PURPOSE
To provide information and guidance on how to measure crude oil API gravity
measurement properly and in safely manner.

3.0 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 PA submits a PTW about the possible risks with AA. Ensure all team members
should obey the rules. Report the job progress in the evening meeting.
3.2 Field Manager and Production Superintendent authorize the PTW and ensure are
documented and reviewed annually.
3.3 AA approves the Formal Procedure after agreed with the control of hazards/ risks.
Keep monitoring the execution of job in properly and safely manner.
3.4 Permit Controller ensures al required document is in place and registers the
Formal Procedure

4.0 EQUIPMENT
4.1 1000 ml glass measurement
4.2 Hydrometer and thermometer
4.3 Rags, etc

5.0 EXECUTION
5.1 Normal Operations and Safe Operating Limit
5.1.1 Preparation to work
5.1.1.1 PA submits PTW to AA prior to perform the job.
5.1.1.2 Conduct Tool Box meeting with all persons who involve prior to
perform the job.
5.1.2 Measurement Process
5.1.2.1 Ensure not too much water content in the sample
5.1.2.2 Pour the sample to 1000 ml glass measurement as required
5.1.2.3 Insert the hydrometer and thermometer to the 1000 ml glass
measurement
5.1.2.4 After a few second, read and record the reading from
hydrometer and thermometer
5.1.2.5 Convert the observed API gravity to 60 0 F using Table
Petroleum Measurement, Volume Correction Factors, Tabel 5A,

5.1.2.5 Clean oil spills if any
