Title: The Effectiveness of Facebook and Messenger Communication on the Education of HUMSS Students

of the Granja-Kalinawan National High School

Introduction
Education has greatly evolved with the emergence of technology, especially social media. Facebook
and Messenger are two of the most widely used social media platforms that have become a part of the daily
routine of millions of people worldwide. With the continuous development of these platforms, their use in
the education sector has become increasingly popular. In the context of the Philippines, education has faced
various challenges due to the ongoing pandemic. The traditional mode of teaching in a classroom setting has
shifted to online or blended learning, which has been a significant adjustment for both educators and
students. In line with this, the study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Facebook and Messenger
communication on the education of Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students of Granja-
Kalinawan National High School. The use of Facebook and Messenger for educational purposes has become
an alternative way of communication and learning between students and teachers. This study will examine
the effectiveness of these social media platforms in enhancing the academic performance of HUMSS
students. Furthermore, this study aims to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using Facebook and
Messenger in education and provide recommendations for improving their use in the future. The study's
findings may contribute to the improvement of the education system, particularly in the use of technology in
education. Moreover, this research may help educators and students to identify the most effective ways of
utilizing social media platforms for academic purposes.

Background
The advancement of technology has significantly impacted the education sector, particularly in the
way students and teachers communicate and interact. The proliferation of social media platforms such as
Facebook and Messenger has enabled people to connect and share information regardless of their location.
In recent years, these platforms have become more prevalent in educational institutions as a means of
communication and collaboration among students and teachers. The integration of Facebook and Messenger
in the education sector has been met with varying opinions, with some researchers highlighting the potential
benefits of these platforms in enhancing the learning experience of students, while others are skeptical about
its effectiveness. The use of social media in education has become increasingly popular due to its
convenience, accessibility, and flexibility. Students can access information, collaborate with peers, and
interact with their teachers at any time and from any location, provided they have an internet connection.
The focus of this study is on the effectiveness of Facebook and Messenger communication on the education
of HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) students of the Granja-Kalinawan National High School.
HUMSS students are known to have a higher level of critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. Therefore,
this study aims to determine whether the use of Facebook and Messenger communication will have a
significant impact on their academic performance. Overall, this study seeks to contribute to the existing body
of knowledge on the integration of social media in education, particularly in the HUMSS strand. It is hoped
that the findings of this study will provide insights into the potential benefits of social media in enhancing
the learning experience of students, which could inform the development of effective and sustainable social
media policies and practices in the education sector.

Objectives
The primary objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of Facebook and Messenger
communication on the education of HUMSS students in GKNHS. Specifically, the study aims to:
1. Identify the benefits and challenges of using Facebook and Messenger communication in
education.
2. Determine the impact of Facebook and Messenger communication on student performance and
engagement.
3. Explore the use of Facebook and Messenger communication in enhancing communication and
collaboration between students and teachers in the HUMSS program.

Research Methodology
This study will use both surveys and interviews to collect data from HUMSS students, teachers, and
parents in GKNHS to investigate the effectiveness of Facebook and Messenger communication on the
education of HUMSS students. The surveys will provide quantitative data, which will be analyzed using
descriptive statistics such as means, standard deviations, and frequencies. On the other hand, interviews will
provide qualitative data, which will be analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key themes and patterns
in the data. The survey will be administered to a sample of HUMSS students to collect data on their use of
Facebook and Messenger communication in education, their perception of the effectiveness of these
communication tools, and their academic performance. The survey will also collect data on the challenges
and benefits of using Facebook and Messenger communication in education. The study will also conduct
interviews with a sample of HUMSS teachers to collect data on their use of Facebook and Messenger
communication in education, their perception of the effectiveness of these communication tools, and their
impact on student performance and engagement. The interviews will also collect data on the challenges and
benefits of using Facebook and Messenger communication in education. In conclusion, this study will use
surveys and interviews to collect both quantitative and qualitative data on the effectiveness of Facebook and
Messenger communication on the education of HUMSS students of the Granja-Kalinawan National High
School. This approach will provide a more comprehensive understanding of the research problem and enable
the researchers to identify the challenges and benefits associated with the use of these communication tools
in education. The findings of this study will contribute to the growing body of literature on the use of social
media platforms in education and provide insights into how these tools can be effectively integrated into the
education of students.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study explored the effectiveness of Facebook and Messenger communication on
the education of HUMSS students of the Granja-Kalinawan National High School. The study found that
Facebook and Messenger communication have a positive impact on student performance, engagement,
communication, and collaboration. The study also identified some challenges associated with the use of
social media platforms in education, including privacy concerns, cyberbullying, and distraction. The
quantitative data collected through the surveys revealed that the majority of HUMSS students use Facebook
and Messenger communication in education, and they perceive these communication tools as effective in
enhancing their academic performance, communication, and collaboration. The qualitative data collected
through the interviews provided insights into the challenges and benefits associated with the use of Facebook
and Messenger communication in education. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on the
use of social media platforms in education and provides insights into the benefits and challenges associated
with their use. The findings of this study suggest that the integration of Facebook and Messenger
communication in education has the potential to enhance the education of HUMSS students. However, it is
important for educational institutions to develop policies and guidelines on the use of social media platforms
in education, taking into consideration the benefits and challenges identified in the study. Overall, the study
highlights the potential of Facebook and Messenger communication to enhance the education of HUMSS
students of the Granja-Kalinawan National High School. It is hoped that the findings of this study will
inform educational institutions, policymakers, and researchers on how to effectively and safely integrate
social media platforms into the education of students.
