CHARACTERISTICS OF TWO- DIMENSIONAL ART


1. It has mathematical dimensions of width and height (but no depth).
2. They can be decorative spaces (spatial condition) or plastic spaces (create its own expression).
3. Plane/Picture Frame – the boundary of the picture plane or the limitation of two-dimensional art.

Drawings – process of moving an instrument to leave a mark;
- line is the most important element; done by pencils, crayons, chalks;
- have shading techniques: hatching, blending, stippling, etc.
Paintings – process of applying colors to surfaces using paint brushes,
painting knives, rollers, hands/fingers, to create shapes over the canvas.
- either be oil-based paints or water-based paints.

Carving – subtractive process of solid mass (removes, cuts, chips, drills)
Casting – manipulative process (soft pliable materials) using manual hand force

Sculpture – most media used are clay, glass, plastics, wood, stone, metal
Architecture – shelters, buildings, monuments, shrines
Modeling – additive process (artist gradually adds more material)

 The process of creating an artwork does not necessarily follow a linear progreassion because it
requires creativity, which does not always adhere to conventions that artist usually used to do.

Production – actual execution and creation of art
Post production – exhibiting the masterpieces in the gallery

 Something that is conferred or bestowed especially on the basis o merit or need

Renown – signifies a more cosmopolitan form of recognition beyond the esoteric circles in which the artist
