Rationale
I chose to do my research paper on Shantol Jackson because of
what she has brought to the theatre community. Her career has
started relatively recently in the world of the performing arts; she is
still looking for ways to expand and grow. I adore how she uses her
talents, and I aspire to learn more about her. I feel that while
learning more about her, I can use that knowledge to help me on my
journey in the performing arts. As for myself, I believe that theatre,
drama, acting, etc is a way of expressing myself to its fullest form.

First, I would like to thank god for helping me create and complete
my Research Paper. Next, I would like to thank my Theatre Arts
teacher, Ms Gracia Thompson, for guiding me through the process
of creating this paper and teaching me how to improve my skills in
the world of Theatre Arts. I would like to express gratitude to the
Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) for allowing me to carry out
this research paper. I would also like to thank my parents and
friends for supporting and contributing to the essay.
Into the life of Shantol Jackson

Shantol Jackson is a Jamaican actress who has captured the


attention of the world with her powerful performances and
captivating presence. Born on July 28, 1992, and raised in Jamaica,
Jackson always had a passion for acting and the arts, which led her
to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Over the years,
she has become one of the most recognized actresses in Jamaica
and has earned international recognition for her work.

Jackson's career began in the theatre, she developed an interest in


acting at a young age, although her father was not fond of the idea
she went on and pursued it by attending the Edna Manley College
of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, where she studied
theatre arts. She also trained with the Jamaica Youth Theatre and
the Ashe Company, where she honed her craft and developed her
acting skills.

Shantol's big break came in 2017 when she was cast in the Jamaican
film "Yardie," directed by Idris Elba. The film, which is based on a
novel by Victor Headley, tells the story of a young Jamaican man
who becomes embroiled in the world of organized crime in London.
Shantol played the role of "Yvonne," a strong and independent
Jamaican woman who becomes romantically involved with the film's
protagonist and her performance was widely praised.

Jackson has also appeared in other international productions such


as the TV series "Death in Paradise" made by Robert Thorogood.
She has been praised for her ability to bring depth and authenticity
to her roles, making her stand out in a highly competitive industry.

She then transitioned to film and television, where she starred in


several notable productions. Her breakout role was in the 2016 film
"Sprinter," in which she played the role of the mother of a young
track and field athlete. Her performance in the film was critically
acclaimed, and it earned her numerous awards and nominations,
including the Best Supporting Actress award at the American Black
Film Festival.

Jackson's success as an actress has not only brought her personal


recognition but has also helped to put Jamaica's film industry on the
map. She is a trailblazer for other young Jamaican actors and has
inspired many to pursue their dreams of working in the
entertainment industry.

In conclusion, Shantol Jackson is a talented and inspiring actress


who has made a significant impact on the entertainment industry.
Her performances have captivated audiences around the world,
and her dedication to her craft and her community is a testament to
her character and values. As she continues to take on new and
exciting roles, there is no doubt that she will continue to make a
name for herself as one of Jamaica's most beloved and respected
actresses and she is sure to inspire and empower many young
actors and filmmakers to follow in her footsteps.
Reflective Piece
Shantel Jackson, a name so strong,

She won't give up, she'll push along.

She'll chase her dreams, no matter how far,


And let nothing hold her back, not even a scar.

With a fire in her heart and a spark in her eye,

She'll face every challenge, she'll reach for the sky.

For she knows her worth, and her potential so great,

And her faith in herself will never abate.

No obstacle too great, no hurdle too tall,

For she's driven by a dream, and that dream is her call.

She'll rise up and conquer, and never give in,

For her spirit is strong, and her soul will always win.

So here's to Shantel, a woman of power,

Whose strength and determination will never sour.

For she's on a path, to greatness untold,

And with every step forward, her future will unfold.


Written Component

While researching, I learnt that people might tell you and do


things that may hurt and demotivate you, but you should not let it
turn you down and redirect the path to your goal. Initially, the task
of gathering information posed a considerable challenge, as the
process of locating the relevant data proved to be quite
challenging and arduous. Despite my best efforts, it took some time
to overcome the initial obstacles and make meaningful progress
towards acquiring the necessary information. Promoting yourself as
a theatre practitioner is essential because it helps to increase your
visibility and create opportunities for yourself. By promoting your
skills and experience, you are able to showcase your talents to a
wider audience, including potential employers, collaborators, and
audience members. As you gain more recognition and become
recommended for various opportunities, you are likely to receive
more offers to work on productions and projects, which can lead to
greater exposure, experience, and professional growth. It can also
lead to building a network of contacts within the industry, which can
be invaluable for finding work and making connections. Although
going through many hardships Shantel Jaskson pushes on to follow
her dreams. Disbelief, poverty and misfortune did not get her down
or Steer her path away from her dreams and aspirations. She is a
role model for Jamaicans and Young actors around the world.
