Papatūā-nuku

Festival

New Zealand 's Government with the Māori Carbon Collective and KIA
ORA invite you to attend the Papatūā-nuku festival "The richness of
Māori culture in one event".

This Sunday, May 22, from 12 pm to 6 pm at the New Zealand international


convention center, we will carry out numerous activities, shows and
representative exhibitions of Māori culture. This enriching experience will
be a never-before-seen immersion into the roots of one of the facets of New
Zealand’s culture. This contact with the Māori ways will be focused on one
side by an approach to the complex history of this people, its origins,
mythology and worldview as well as the colonial history of New Zealand. On
the other side we will get in touch with the traditions of Māori people in an
interactive way through workshops hosted by highly regarded individuals in
the community.

Workshops and activities: Exhibitions:


Traditional tattoo workshop "Moko" with the special “Māori cosmology, the legacy of Maui”
participation of Nanaia Mahuta. Hall 4
(Hall 2 from 12-2 pm) “Cultural shock, England and New Zealand”
Conference and tasting of Māori dishes hosted by Hall 6
Monique Fiso. “Contemporary harmony between cultures”
(Hall 5 from 1-3 pm) Hall 1
Design and creation of “Waka” (traditional boat)

directed by the Waitama port.

Vocabulary, grammar and syntax classes in Māori by
the University of Auckland.

By attending this festival



you will not only learn about and celebrate Māori culture but
also help preserve it. After a past of submission and a progressive disappearance of the
Māori culture, keeping the memory of these people alive through events like this one,
allows healing the wound of the past and encouraging a better future while maintaining
the roots that built this nation. New Zealand is Māori heritage and Māori heritage is
New Zealand!
